I would take a look at the Elac FS207.2.

Slim floor stander. Treble is smooth (excellent ribbon tweeter) but crystal clear and integrates exceptionally well with the mid. They need space which you seem to have. They are not a very easy load so home dem first, they may not suit your amp.

cool, you can use a whole load of speakers.

The problem with asking for advice of course, is you get everyone reccomending what they like best! - its almost predictable really.

I'd rather be predictable than reccomend things I dont like though...

You could try Living Voice with the Lavardin. They like free space positioning, and with their high efficiency have quick bass. Used/ex-dem pairs always available from definitive audio's site.

I think you might like big studio monitors of one type or another, but Im discounting them because of their size, which isnt very WAF for you.

Mike (merlin) had some merlin VSM's. The tweeter they had was about as detailed and clean as you are going to get. The bass was very very quick. They were studio monitor like, and very different speakers to Living Voice - which are about fun and dynamics.

You could say the merlins were even across the sonic spectrum, and the living voices are more fruity in the mid band, but now Im sounding like hifi+

    Both are very attractive speakers.

From the bbc type sound you've gone for before (ls3's etc), I'd be reccomending you try some harbeths, which are a different type of sound again - although I have very limited experience of them.

What always works well in every show I've been to are Audionote speakers. Again, very efficient and good for an amp like a Lavardin. They work in room corners easily enough and aren't too big, both of which might be good for WAF. They have a warm generous sound, that is really enjoyable for longer listening sessions. They are very good value as kits from www.hificollective.co.uk. You see the odd pair used aswell.

Id say something along the lines of the bbc design would give you the clarity and speration that you like, possibly use with a sub? Theres quite a few wife-friendly designts out there such as the pmc's mentioned. Im also a big fan of the B&W 805's but Id have to use the with a sub to satisfy my gutteral rumblings.

What about some full-range speakers? Possibly using Lowthers or fostex or even Jordan 92's. Just a thought

Hmmm. Tough one. I too like the Yamaha's. I have a mate in Devon who has a pair. They sound great but forget the WAF.

Of the ones mentioned above, I don't think Harbeths will improve much in the WAF stakes. The LV's aren't particularly pretty either. Some of the PMCs are OK but may not offer sufficient mid/treble quality.

    Hmmm.

How about some of these with a sub:

    Dynaudio Contour 1.1 / 1.3 / 1.4

    Acoustic Energy AE1 mkIII

    ATC Active 20's

    JMlabs Micro Utopia Be

and yes, the B&W 805 if you like yellow woofers.

JAMO did a nice little standmount too. D830?

I might as well chip in with a recommendation for Audiovector's range of floorstanders. I've just bought a pair of M3 Signatures and they are great on mid/treble, plenty of well-controlled bass, are relatively slim so don't dominate the room, and aren't pig-ugly. Mrs H said they 'look OK' which is high praise coming from her.

Having said that I have zero experience of Yamaha speakers, though I once owned one of their guitars.

    AE1, good call!

Those the 805's are nice, my mate has a pair and they easily pass a very stringent WAF level. He was told to forget floorstanders though.

I've recently been very impressed with the concert 8 standmount. The concert 8 or floorstanding concert 11 would make a great second hand buy.

A full rich sound, of the LV/audionote variety.

nice build quality and drivers. Pleasant looking with the grills on.

I believe the D830 is the new version of the smaller concert 8.

Some of the Proac range have that generous mid-band too.

They have so many models out there though, I'm not familiar enough to reccomend specific ones. Merlin or Robbo would be good people to PM.

James, ol' spud, you are a lucky, lucky, LUCKY man! On certain matters I have about the same influence on Mrs. Tones as Canute had on the tide, and one of these is "boxes" in the lounge. The Keilidhs are just about acceptable (slim fronts and nice wood finish that matches the rest of the furniture).

Just as some free consultancy tones, what would be a legal way to scrap NS1000 speakers, since the mid and treble are beryllium??

If they are in your budget you MUST try the PMC AML1's at about £3,800. They have incredible detail in the treble and mid-range as they use the same tweeter as the £20,000 flagship BB5. The bass is amazingly quick and deep for their size as well. Until you hear them, there is not al lot I can say to describe just how good they are.

I don't know where you can demo them but if you are near me in Gravesend, kent, feel free to visit.
