Japanese rooms are small. Apartments are larger now than they were, but this is translated, for the most part, into more rooms. Privacy is a real luxury.
Of course, once you get out of Kanto (how I wish I could, sometimes...), houses and speakers tend to increase in size...
I think Japanese audiophools are 30 years ahead and 20 years behind everyone else. It is a really unique market/culture here. Utterly different from HK, Singapore or China, nevermind the UK or US.
Pretty much *every* store that carries proper hifi will have JBLs and Tannoys.
