The Magic Numbers...

Don't take any notice of me - I'm a miserable old scrote and I hate pop music!
Especially the Beatles...
But I love Suicidal Tendencies, and Schubert, and Ornette Coleman, and Parliament, and AC/DC, and Shostakovich. And King Tubby.
In other words music where any singing is part of the music as opposed to instruments just backing a singer. The sort of thing where you could listen to the backing without the singer, and still enjoy it just as much.
AFAIC, these are the 2 diametrically opposed schools of music...

Still, all these wet indie types are at least a bit worthy - unlike the manufactured boy/girl band pap that 9 year olds buy..

Splendid soundclash possibilities. A man after my own heart.

There are exceptions to every rule. I don't think the last Johnny Cash LP [for example] would fit within the parameters you talk about. I would imagine the whole would suffer for the lack of the great man's dulcet tones. I think there are times when the voice is all, needing only the merest embellishment. Sorry, that sounds like a right load of cobblers...

Happy soundclashing

Fair enough - if someone's got a distinctive voice you'd definitely miss it if you'd bought the record for that person singing!
Still, I think backing should be able to stand up on it's own, and be enhanced by qualitats-singing.

Talking of soundclash, check out Praxis, or Zillatron, or anything by Buckethead...

Evenin' all. Just back from holiday yesterday and thought I'd drop in.

Qualitats-singing indeed. Bought this while we were away and liked it even on the campervan stereo (hard to hear anything much through the thrum of a vw flat four but we still liked it).

At home on the big rig its really rather lush ... don't fancy yours much though ;)
