Whats happening to the hole in the Ozone layer these days. This was the big hot potato about a decade ago which was going to wreak havoc across the globe but I havent heard it mentioned for a few years as all we get now is stuff about climate change and carbon footprints

    Only for human beings.

Its pretty straightforward really. As a species we consume more resources than the world can provide. If we don't stop consuming more resources than the world can provide, in the long term life will probably become hellish and then quite possibly, impossible. The solution is either for each individual to consume fewer resources or for fewer individuals to consume the same. Currently we are heading for more individuals consuming more.

If you keep getting more individuals because you refuse to tackle population growth then it doesn't matter how well you address the issue of how much they consume as the end result will be the same, its simply a question of how quickly you get there.

Hmmm. Well assuming you found other earth compatable planets and invented a faster than or near light drive to get you there ... You would need to develop ships capable of moving hundreds of millions (and force them to go), otherwise you would just be making a pin prick and these people would just keep breeding to fill the gap anyway. I think Mr Hawkings was joking. Anyway even if you did you would eventually just wind up with the problem twice. or thrice. or however many planets you found.

No I think people need to be encouraged not to have them. Tax breaks for the childless not the married :)

What do you mean? Iain Duncan Smith says that all the problems of our society will be solved if we all get married, although I have a feeling that perhaps he's already living on another planet. :D

Well yes probably. I mean what sort of marriage is gonna be saved for 20 quid a week or whatever it is, Best way to reduce the divorce rate is to discourage marriage in the first place :JPS:

David Cameron is hardly in a position to talk. He's related to the royals, and look at their record of marital dysfunction.
