yeah, thats ok - so, what working experience do you have..? - did you do a placement at all..??
or crabs...btw AT, if you do pick-up some crabs Ive got a good way of getting rid, it involves lighter fluid, a lighter and a hammer.
Officialy I am still employed but they just have no work for me. I have done contract work producing websites so its relevant to what I want to do. I also have good references from that job. I am not worrying about getting a job long term as I have the some experience and I have the qualifications it will just take time. I am practising DJ'ing at the moment and I hope to do some DIY around the house so I am not doing nothing while I am looking for jobs and waiting for responces.
Sorry, but WRONG!! Waiting for adverts...registering with agencies...why are you handing over control of your future to people you have never met? Be proactive. Go find the sort of companies you really want to work for. Do some research, then write to them even if they haven't yet advertised. Do some networking, talk to friends and relatives. Can you imagine what a boost it would be to your chances if you found someone who knows the Personel Manager or Head of Department for a company you have your eye on? If you don't ask then you'll never know. Can you get the Job Centre people to do some ringing on your behalf? Go speak with them. Get on their radar, let them know you're serious about your career. What's your CV look like? Is it concise, does it carry the relevant info. Are there things you have done that demonstrate personal qualities that an employer is looking for. In short, does your CV sell You? If not, then go do something about it. What about tackling some of your confidence issues? There's no one I know who feels confident in every situation, but you can learn to deal with fear and make others think that you're in control. Have a look at some of the life coaching tapes from Anthony Robbins. Try the music section of your local library, or even go invest £20 and buy a set from Ebay. Do you know what, girls find confidence a really attractive quality. There's a lot you can do between waiting for adverts or a call from the Agency that's gonna take 10% of your first years salary. It's your life, the world owes you nothing. Take control now. Good luck.
I know I need to write to employers etc it all takes time, I have applied to a few couple of jobs this way (well looking at companies I like websites) but got no response. I will need to write to companies this somthing I was going to a few weeks ago but not got round to it for obvious reasons. A for my CV I have rewritten it, the same information is there but its in a logical order. I it has all the things it should do, and it dosn't mention my HIFI hobby Edit also I have sent my CV to apply for a job for a company I like the other day (I saw the internally via their website) but they have not acknowledged my application. Should I ring them to ask if they recieved it?
Yep its all been checked over, there is nothing wrong with my CV or covering letter. The only reason I make so many mistakes on here is I rush I type like 100wpm and I don't bother checking it afterwards. Its quicker for me type than read I kind of race ahead of myself which is why I miss out words at times.
But why haven't you done anything about it? Get off this bl**dy forum and go do something about your life. Look at it this way. God forbid anything bad should happen, but imagine one of your parents had a heart attack and was lying on a stretcher in A&E and the Doctors said something like "I know we should try and save him but it all takes time" or "We should have called the Cardiologist, but I just haven't got round to it." My god, you'd be going nuts screaming at them to do something. Wouldn't you? If it's the scale of the task that is too daunting then just break it down into manageable chunks - but do something now before your career flatlines. Or else your future could feature the phrase "...would you like fries with that, Sir?" :green:
I'm the same...well, I surf whilst being at work... anyway, do some strength exercises and walk straight (back traight and shoulders back!) - I got taught this when I was in my 20's...you'd be surpirsed at how many people turn look away when you're walking down the local highstreet when you make eye contact with them, especially blokes...you know, just trying to physche them out... that good fo your confidence too...do some boxing or a martial art...
But greif kind of stops you from doing things you would normaly, I am only just starting to get back to normal. Thats why the whole job hunting thing has been put off for so long. Mr Cat, yep I have done that before, its quite funny doing it down Market Street in Manchester, but it scares the old ladies Anyway I am going to get some dinner now.
AT, I'm sorry for your loss and you have my condolences. Tell me about your Grandfather. Was he the sort of person who wanted the best for his family? Did he give you encouragement to go to University and was he proud that you passed your course? My Grandparents were incredibly proud of the acheivements of our family. Even though they passed on more than five years ago I can still hear them telling me to get ahead and make the most of every opportunity. This is how I honour their memory. Would your Grandfather want the same for you?
Yep thats why I am doing stuff, I've been looking into companies now. He was very proud that I had passed, I was in Brighton at the time though so I wasn't there but he was very proud, he died exactly a week later I wouldn't say he encouraged me to go to university becuase he would have encouraged me to do anything I wanted to. But I know he was proud its nice because I got a 1st on one of the assignments he helped me with, I had to design an interface for an touch screen NHS help system and old people had to able to use it easily, if not I had to re-engineer it so old people could use it, my grandad was one of the people that tested it for me. He was amazing really, when he was 79 and still recovering from his last operation he learn't how to use the internet in a few days, within a week he was using the internet to renew his libary book and look at hotels for a holiday he wanted to go in the lakes, which he never got round to Instead of moaning that he was old and had cancer he just got one with things the best he could, although this did mean he got frustrated when he would try and do somthing simple like paint the toilet room and didn't have the energy. But you'r right my grandad would want me to make the most of things.
Well if theres one thing that death should show you, it's that there is more to life than work. I would suggest trying to find a part time job thru the Summer so you have time to do things. What about a postie? early starts, then the rest of the day to get hammered. Lots of fresh air.. Then look for a job where you want to work [London/oop North/etc] at your leisure.
He sounds like a good man. The best tribut you can pay to him is to crack on and make the best of every opportunity mate. You know this already of course, but I know from experience that sometimes it helps to have someone else say it. Brighton rocks BTW. my home town
Could I have a copy of your CV AT? As I have been writing lots myself it would be nice to see how someone else goes about it! I always stay away from doing my CV in a very 'standard' 'professional' way and try to make it as human and personal as possible while still giving all the information I want too in a clear way. In my view people want to hire people, not just a list of skills. Don't wory I won't try to give you advice one it.
Yeah I liked Brighton, there was a lot to do and it wasn't rough (as we avoided West St at night) and there was a lot to do. All the best clubs seemed to be away from West St anway with just the commercial clubs round there. I am beeing active in looking for jobs but I am making the most of my free time at the same time, me and my mate have set the wheels in motion to hire a venue for a club night today so that should look good on my CV.
Yep its on my mums PC downstairs and I don't have Office on my PC at the moment so I can sent it later tonight/tomorrow morning. The problem I find with CVs is that everybody has totaly different views and different people will tell you to do different things.
Okay kewl My mum and dad have both been professional writers, so they both think they know best!! In the end I just write it myself and they help me to re-organise my paragraphs to get the information across better or give a different point of view on what I wrote so I can see how it might be misunderstood or something.
