Welcome newcomers!

Hello folks, my name's Geoffrey and I've just joined the forum.

Current kit is as follows.

PrimaLuna Prologue Two and Harman Kardon HK990

Rega Apollo plus Rega DAC

Harbeth SHL5 and Tannoy Turnberry SE

Hi and welcome!

I see you have two amps and pairs of 'speakers.
Do you mix n match or pair them into different systems?

Hi Rob and thank you for the welcome.

I mostly use the Rega Apollo/Rega DAC with the PrimaLuna and Turnberrys but for a change I sometimes use the HK990 and SHL5's. I really ought to put the SHL5's up for sale because I prefer the Turnberry's.

Hi all,

Latest new boy on the block!

I've been kicking around hifi since the late 1970s, first got into music in the late 1960s (thanks to my mum and dad's records and an old Dansette Viva!) and these days frequent a couple of hifi fora; less often at the WHF forum and - more often - the Steve Hoffman one.

Like the site and the format - currently circling round the Kensais as a potential next purchase; time will tell!

Hi and nice to meet you.

I live in a house with all rooms too small for my hi-fi. The preamp and power amps were built by a hi-fi enthusiast over two decades ago and are basically copies of Krell equipment of that age. The speakers are stored and so are the turntables. I'm not going to talk about them, it's a bit sad that they have to be shut away. For now. There's a lot of old but gold there.

I listen to most music on the computer (home built) or on the phone, the old Sony Ericsson W995 is now a dedicated music player. I'm thinking of buying a portable headphone amp to use with it.

So, I've come here to learn new tricks, I hope, and see if there is a new way to use some of the old good equipment differently.

Hello to all, I have just recently recently joined this forum.

I used to own a lovely Naim CD based system with Epos speakers but I had to sell it with a heavy heart. Now I have a modest Coctail Audio X10 1TB music server with Monitor Audio Bronze BX1 speakers in my kitchen. It is a surprisingly invitingly good sound from a small system. Additionally I have all types of music and international internet radio stations at my fingertips. Thats what comes from burning Cds on a hard drive but I have no idea at all how streaming works (it seems complicated involving a computer, laptop ?).

In the future I would like to create a musical HiFi system in my sitting room. I do not know whether to try tube amps, solid amps or hybrid amps. I am hoping that this forum can guide me. I listen to all types of music except for Rap. My main grounding for music comes from rock 'n' roll, prog rock, blues,60's music and classical music. :)

Welcome, Romulus. It's a small community here, but a helpful one. And as you so-obviously enjoy what you have - well that's the point, really, isn't it? Well done!

Hi,

I'm new here. I see that some members joined on June 19th, 2003, the day I turned 50, exactly. Is it the day this forum was officially opened? If so, cheers!
My system:

Naim Audio:
CDX2
XPS-DR
HiLine
Supernait
HiCap-DR
NAC A5
SBLs

Best wishes to all
Max

But I also play some vinyl, mostly sweet/sour sweet memories from my twenties. For that, in another room, I have:

DUAL701
AudioTechnica
Pioneer SA 7300
Acoustic Research 4x

Best again
Max

Hi

Hello to you all.

Just joined the forum and will be looking for advice on all things hi fi related. I have very little technical knowledge on the electronic side of things and would be also completetly lost in carrying out any DIY/modding work to hi fi equipment. This I hope to address by learning and listening to advice from fellow forum members.

I have an 80's Naim system consisting of a 32.5 pre/140/HiCap/Linn Kanns and is now looking forward to getting a vintage/classic amp set up to drive a recently acquired pair of Tannoy Monitor Golds in a Lancaster enclosure.

Happy listening

Pete
Hi petehad a similiar system to you.never had any joy with cd till i changed the pre smp. Am running a classic system. Been running this for 15 years and it would suit the tannoys superbly. Amps are Leak TL 12 Plus x2 Tisbury passive pre(recent and awesome!) cd is Audio Note An cd2 and turntable is a 401 in a Martin Bastin plinth arm is sme4 with a Benz Glyder. Phono is audio synthesis adeq. Also use. Leak Troughline. This is a very satisfying system. It is crucial that any amplifier valve/transistor be fully overhauled before audition. I have always E.F.G. Of London. Graham Tricker and Classic Sounds of Leicester also rebuild classic gear. Good luck! Johnnyo
