Look up Aikido Tenson.
I'm a fan of aikido too and I've found it to be wonderful for preventing fights and for breaking up other people's.

Out of interest, where do you study and what style do you practice?

I practice Yoshinkan Aikido which Soke Gozo Shioda Sensei created when Morihei Ueshiba semi-retired before the end of WW2.

I would rather not say where i study online, but PM me if you are interested as we always welcome visitors.

I'm with the Ki Federation, practising under Sensei Williams. Ki Aikido was started by Koichi Tohei Sensei and the emphasis is very much on mind and body together.

It interests me that different styles of aikido were often influenced by the age of O'Sensei (Ueshiba) when the style's originator studied under him.

I've been practising since 1980 and teaching since 1984 although I'm currently having a teaching break before I open a new club.

Greg, in answer to
The question is then what is the next weapon of choice with a low penalty?
I believe that William Shakespeare had the right idea in his play Julius Caesar with the line "Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war!"

I feel that the press are reporting more cases of people being savaged by various types of attack dogs owned and operated by those who wish to intimidate others without using a gun or a knife. Rather hard to have the police question a dog, so does the owner get a free pass on an attack? If the dog is put down do they just get another one to train?

I agree with you on the age thing, as you probably know Yoshinkan is very much Hell Dojo based :D
I have always been interested in the Ki aspect as my sensei only ever talks about "centering" and never Ki. But i am currently reading Ki in daily life by Koichi Tohei Sensei.

It is nice to see someone else who practices Aikido on ZeroGain.

The 'ki' thing is a clever and handy model to build on the concept of centering so I'm sure that your sensei is correct there.

'Ki in Daily Life' is a great book but the testing of centering or stability is everything. Without actually experiencing the testing, the book will give you about as much idea of 'ki' as a hi-fi review will tell you the sound of a system.

I'm getting very intolerant over this kind of thing lately. I'm slowly moving to the view point that if someone takes out a knife on the street to threaten someone they completely forfiet their life and you have the right (if able to do so) to kill them. I also think that if caught by the authorities carrying any kind of weapon you should automatically get a prison sentence of at least 2 years. IMO there is just NO justification for carrying a weapon on the streets therefore it can be assumed that you intend at the very least to commit ABH and should be punished on that basis on a minimum sentence. If you should actually threaten someone with a knife you are IMO intending to kill so therefore a proportionate response for self defence would be to have your life taken by the person your threatening and to be charged with attempted murder as a minium should you be caught by the authorities. That's irrespective of what actions you actually take.
