Where Does Your Hi Fi Live ?

Midlifecrisis,

Take a look at my system pics here:-

Although I have a carpet covered concrete floor, I noticed significant benefits by replacing any spikes (rack, speakers, sub etc.) with Finite Elemente feet. You will see that I have the Cerabase feet on the bottom of my HNE rack. I have also added them to both main speakers and put 4 X Cerapucs under the REL Stentor III (must update the photos!). It may be worth trying if you have a suspended floor!

Steve

nice...what rack is that you got..? - where you buy it from and how much..?

cheers! :)

It is a bespoke equipment stand manufactured by Peter Stewart of HNE Systems:-

http://www.hne.co.uk/

You can specify any dimensions/shelf sizes/number/wood finish and Peter will quote you, build, deliver and assemble in your home in approx four weeks from ordering.

His equipment racks, speaker stands etc. have been well reviewed and are heavy (granite shelves), solid and built to last.

He will even buy them back if you move on to something else!

I paid £820 for a six-tier equipment rack in polished black granite and solid sycamore (shelves I specified are 550 X 400 x 12mm) and it stands 790 mm tall.

Nice system Midlife ;)
cheers - actually the Krell SACD has since gone, replaced by a dcs p8i which does not look so impressive but sounds better and is a damn sight more reliable (I went through three of the Krells having transport failures or whirring like a fan heater before giving up on them...).

Lets see if this works !

The TT, CD have there own Target wall shelves, with the TT having an addition Something Solid platform.

Then the main rack (on concrete slab) looks like this (Naim AV2 just sold)

As my original question, does anyone think I will improve sound with a different rack ? as the main parts are on their own wall shelves !

All power wires kept well away from Interconnects

I am thinking of buy an Isotek unit, possibly a mini sub the £550 unit.

One thing I did not realise, just how dusty it all was !

I forgot to add, eveything is set up with an engineers spirit level, which takes bloody hours !

Snoopdog, what's the box on the bottom (the silver one)? Is it a power conditioner of some sort? If so, do you have a dedicated spur(s) and/or consumer unit, and if you do, do you think the power conditioner necessary?

Levi, how on earth do you use your turntable? Looks like its 8 feet up the wall?!?!?!

Also, nice to see a Sony DVP-NS300! Not a bad little deck actually. Enormously reliable, unlike any other DVDP i've owned since :-(

Not quite ! it is nearly 6' ! it makes it easy to use, as the needle is just under eye level.

I wanted to get the TT as far away from the sub as possible, well the truth is there was f**k up with the measuring when I put it up !

The little Sony DVd, is better than I thought, it was a sort of freebee with the Plasma.

1) Nordost Thor
2) No
3) Needed 6 sockets, didn't want mains conditioning (previously owned an Isotek Substation), system boxes fed by Valhalla & Vishnu power cords, so Thor seemed the right direction to go (star earthing and all that!).

Oh, and I am happy with the sound of my system!

Steve

Mine lives on ash racks, unfortunately they have gone out of business now, but appear now and then on Ebay:
