Who had best number 1?

Ernie... Benny Hill :eek: :(

Where's your musical sense of humour? That track rocks!

It could have been worse - a flippin' "It ain't half hot, mum" crappy cash in:
Whispering Grass - Windsor Davies & Don Estelle (UK)

Christ - it gets worse in the US: Love Will Keep Us Together - Captain & Tennille

Someone shoot me now!

Hey Garmt - you must be born about a month after me, based on your single (I was hunting on to find out if/when Steve Harley/Cockney Rebel got to number 1 with "Make me smile" ;)

Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners

Techno - Thats a flippin' great song :d

Along with all the other old classics such as Move It, Living Doll etc :)

You can't hurry love by Phil.

OH DEAR! The Japanese lodger we had staying at ours overplayed my (recorded from radio) tape copy of this so much, the tape snapped! (it was the first track on side A - too much rewinding; can't say I was very sad to see that track die!)

<Ernie>

Indeed it does, and has some clever wordplay in it too. For some reason I had it on the brain lat week when embroiled in some difficulty DIY work:

"I said 'd'you want it pastuerised, coz pastuerised is best?'
She said 'Ernie I'll be 'appy if it comes up to me chest!'"

UK - Together We Are Beautiful - Fern Kinney

US - Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen

We've had threads like this a few times, and I'm sure I've had different results before. Blondie "Atomic".

Bloody hell. The music back then, in the charts at least, was utter kack! Mind you, are the charts any better these days? I stopped taking any notice on principle when blobby made number 1 many years ago.

Trust me, you're not missing ANYTHING! If BLOODY James Blunt can be at number one over Iron Maiden, there's something rotten in Denmark! Plus nowadays the charts don't have climbers like they did in the 80s and before, so they're about as interesting as a corpse (assuming you're not into necrophilia).

UK - Wham! - I'm Your Man
US - Phil Collins - Separate Lives

(28th November 1985 for those who are wondering :))

UK - Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall
COOL!! I was at middle school when that was at number 1 :( my parets wouldnt let me have that single (even had good music taste at 12!) as they didn't like the 'we don't need no education' bit :rolleyes:

I remember the irony of it being lost on my Primary school teacher as well... :D

Nah; they were just trying to protect you from crap music!

On the day I was born:

UK = Tiger Feet - Mud
US = You're Sixteen - Ringo Starr

...and for my mate whose b-day it is today:

UK = Ashes To Ashes - David Bowie
US = Sailing - Christopher Cross
