Have you considered going my route? :D

Even on my somewhat overactive floor, NOTHING gets into my rack. Design to fit whatever components you like. You know where to source the shelves, I can supply rack design drawings and the local source (who did mine)...

Hi Issac, probably missed something, but what is your route? I am thinking of making the racks myself.

The rack was custom-welded to my design. Hollow uprights filled with sand. Each shelf is 30mm thick granite on an inner tube. Total mass of the rack alone is over 100kg, and the sand and inner tubes can absorb a lot of energy.

"the sand and inner tubes can absorb a lot of energy."

Yes, and then where does the energy go? After a brief time-lag, straight back into the equipment.

I would expect from my basic science knowledge that the kinetic energy of the vibration reaching the sand/rubber inner tubes is actually converted to heat (it vibrates the molecules in the sand and rubber and warms em up *ever so slightly*), rather than being transmitted to the equipment. The energy can't strictly be absorbed, just changed to a different state....kinetic to heat?

Rubber inner tubes inflated like so, well to be honest I'd be really surprised if you can get them to transmit the kinetic energy of a relatively small vibration through to the equipment in any significant way. I can't see how they'd have any significant resonant properties or anything that would allow them to transmit vibration in the way you describe, but I would welcome to any explanation as to how it does :)

As Will said, these mechanisms convert vibration into heat.

Cool this does look like a great design, I have just aquired an Arc welder (now all I need to aquire is the skills to use it!) would you mind if I could have a look at your design? See if I could adapt it to what I have in mind?
