worst follow-up record

Hi HenryT & Dom,

The Blur debut single was 'She's so High' from late 1990. This was a hit single, top 50. There's no other way was the 2nd single and a top 10 hit.

Blur were very much a pop band at the time. I remember seeing them in 1991 & the gig was fun of kids. They were marketed was the Baggy/Madchester groups of the time. This style was very much pushed at the kids. They were also classed as indie due to having guitars. So they were aimed at more than one market. But they were never on an indie label & they had the weight of EMI behind them.
Not sure if I've ever heard "She's So High". Certainly don't rememebr it from the time though, which could explain how I got my facts wrong. :D

The definition of what "indie" music is is very interesting. I've read and taken note of what was said in the "What Is Indie" thread elsewhere in this section. I guess indie to me generally conjures up images of the guitair based pop/rock sound that was mainly coming of out or influenced by bands from Manchester in the early to mid 90's. Having seen and been reminded of the term "Brit pop" in another thread, maybe this is the term I should be using instead? :)

there are so many...many of these arent debuts..

my personal biggest musical release-disapointment was the follow up to ''ok-computer''.

Hardly their debut of course, but the album that got them noticed by the press..

Pearl Jam's follow up albums after 'TEN' didnt shake my tree either.

A little dissapointed with 'a rush of cold blood to the head' which Ive only played twice.

David Gray after 'white ladder' ..didnt like the follow up.

Better stop there..

:)

I'm quite partial to a bit of Rhythm and Stealth. Leftism is a true benchmark album, but the follow up is pretty good too IMO.

I used to listen to it several times a week on my portable MD. Sounds excellent on headphones. A nice diverse mix of "bangin" and MOre chilled out tunes. Swords is possibly my fav. I love the way the album grows and changes.
