By & large, BMW owners don't bother to insult non-BMW owners. Why is this?

To busy maintaining the 50cm distance between them and the car in front, any loss of concentration would result in a mess.

Because non-BMW owners are non-gits and don't need to be insulted?

    It's known as manners.

BMW drivers are the nicest people one could wish to meet.

    This may interest you guys..

    RS6.com video S4 vs M3 CLICk HERE

The s4 gets a rather good start, as expected, but at once up to speed the m3 seems to fly fast it.

No disrespect (and no, as you all know, I can't drive and will never be physically able to) but isn't overtaking in conditions like that a bit of a, err, w*nker-ish thing to do? OK, if the conditions merit it it may be safe, but what if you hit black ice or something?

    Dom,

My car was well within it's limits. The Beemers weren't. If I'd come a cropper I guess I'd have taken some BMW's off the road. Surely something to be proud of!

In all seriousness, I deemed the manoevre to be safe. I did not consider sitting behind three BMW's sliding around all over the place, to be equally so.

I can't help but notice that whilst sporty BMW drivers hate to be challenged on the road, this trait continues into everyday life, as evidenced recently on this very board IMO. Offer a simple challenge and they show their true colours in a instant.

Yes dom, but our expert driver here "deemed" it to be safe, so that's OK, then.

Anyone who thinks their chosen mode of transport makes them a man, must have a brain the size of a infertile sperm ejaculated by a BMW driver......

 I don't own one but will still defend the m3 as a great drivers car (have driven others 330 ect not in the same league), m3's are often willing for a play with me in my car! And one of my driving buddies comes out to play in his and is corteous.
Sometimes you have to decide who to and more importantly not play with. Like the chav in the bespoilered mr2 trying to offer me a traffic light grand pricks tonight - not for me, I'm not into bloodsports, he couldn't drive well enough for me to risk him hitting my car, probably had no insurance and even jumped the lights :grrr:

had one idiot pull out in front of me today causing me to brake hard enough to engage the abs and another who seemed unable to find the dipped setting for their headlights. guess what they were driving.... this isn;t an atypical drive either.
    cheers

would I be in the minority wanting all road cars and bikes mechanically limited to 100mph?

I dont mind the willy waving, its the dangerous driving I have a problem with.

Chris, the problem is, no matter what kind of restriction you fit to a vehicle, someone will very quickly find out how to disable it.

And at what speed do most acciddents happen?? <100 (anyway, surely bad driving is the cause in any case)

Placing a 100mph limiter would surely acheive almost nothing

Don't they do this in japan??

Japan have a 112mph limiter (180 km/h). As angi says, that would do very little for road safety really.

Personally I think the key is more driver training. Institute a minimum learning period of 6 months (to get rid of one-week "intensive" driving courses which teach you how to pass the test, not how to drive) before a test of similar standard to the current driving test. This then gives a provisional 2 license which lasts for two years. In those two years a further test must be taken (to the level of IAM or RoSPA bronze currently) in order to obtain a full license. If this is not done then the basic test must be taken again to acquire a provisional 2 again. Provisional 2 would have to carry with it various "handicaps" to discourage people from taking the test every two years and not proceeding to the full test (such as having to display "P" plates, limitations on road access, insurance, etc). Once the full license is obtained it should be retested every 5 years (RoSPA requires yearly retests to maintain status, but for the number of people to test under such a new system this would be impractical). If a retest is failed the full license is revoked and the driver drops back to provisional 2.
