Best ever........

bit of a rythm with kraftwerk, but shite melodies, besides most of the stuff you listen to is considered white noise by those of us with taste :)

I have been half tempted to get a Kraftwerk album, a lot of my favourite artists have been influenced by them. However I am not sure if this is a good enough reason to by an album.

Albatross, Fleetwood Mac. Actually its the only thing I can think of. But its what I'd call quite good.

Or.... how about Stone Fox Chase by (I think) Area Code something-or-other, it was the title music for Old Grey Whistle Test.

Or...you know, Test Match Special tune by Booker T and the MGs (I think it was them, could be wrong)

Now, who did the music for golf on TV?

Name me a better melody in pop music than, off the top of my head, "Neon Lights", or "Radioactivity".

I get the feeling you haven't heard much Kraftwerk.

Eh? Kraftwerk? No rhythm or melody?

*thump thump thump thump*

Wir fahr'n fahr'n fahr'n auf der Autobahn!

*thump thump thump thump*

Rhythmic and melodic genius  :D

I refer the honourable gentleman to the question above.

"Autobahn" is, of course, about autobahns. And therefore predominantly a rhythm piece. But there's an awful lot more to Kraftwerk than that. Including some beautiful choons.

Mmm... not a great deal of interest in the old rhythm department either in that one as far as I'm concerned. I never got terribly far with Kraftwerk because I was so strongly put off by what I did hear, so I'm afraid I can't really engage in an in-depth discussion.

I need to listen to some Kraftwerk. All I've heard is Autobahn (of course) and some not particularly interesting bits of electronic blippery and poppery backing Africa Bambaata in various documentaries about how rap music got started.

Michael.

Not recently no, granted, my mate was into them, and they never really floated my boat, not familair enough with them to say if i have heard the tracks you mention, will re visit them someday, if they're as boring as I remember I'll sue you for the price of the disc, if they are as good as you say, i'll buy you a pint.

Mind you the rest of your stuff is pretty noisy by ordinary standards, i'm sure you would agree. :)

Maybe I have misjudged you somewhat sir, and for that please accept my deepest appologies.

However another wise crack about the best band from the North Americas, and I'll come down there and beat you to a bloddy pulp whilst playing "The Weapon" at clipping levels into your speakers. You have been warned :D (not that I supect it will do any good)

"The Gates Of Delirium" by Yes (from Relayer)

"The Forgotten Part II" by Joe Satriani (from Flying In A Blue Dream)

"Stationary Traveller" by Camel (from Stationary Traveller)

The Shadows "Nivram", a wonderful jazzy piece (when did a rock group last use brushes on the drums?) and one of those few recordings that are absolutely perfect - one note more, one note less would spoil it.

The best band from North America, ah that would be the JBs (or Paliament/Funkadelic - same thing, really), and I suspect Sideshow would be *very* happy to have you round for a session of that, clipping or no.

The Old Grey Whistle Test theme was done by Area Code 615. It was called Stone fox chase. They were from Nashville.

The test match cricket theme was done by Booker T & the MGs. It was called Soul Limbo.

Not sure I can picture the golf theme.

Hi,

As for instrumentals, there are many top examples. Some of my faves include work by Booker T & the Mgs, the JBs & the Funk Brothers. My alltime favourite instrumental band is the Skatalites. Tunes too numerous to mention.

One of my all time favourite instrumentals of all time is "The Champion" by Willie Mitchell. Pure class in a glass.

In fact, I will play it when I get in.

North Americas as in continent, and **** are the best band in the world, they just happen to hail from Canada. Hope this clears it up :D
I was talking about continental North America, and you can't spell because the JBs is only three letters and Funkadelic is a lot more :D

PS oh, and your geography is off, too ;)

good choices TB, especially the first 2
The 3rd one, Stationary Traveller, has been known to bring me to tears. It's one of those 'turn off the lights, turn up the volume, lie back and float away on a see of bliss' type tunes.

"The Clap" by Yes (from The Yes Album)

"Storm 3000" by Leftfield (from Leftism)

"Meltdown" by Orbital (from The Altogether)

"On Her Majesty's Secret Service" by Propellerheads (from Shaken and Stirred by David Arnold)

"Zap" by Eric Johnson (from G3 Live)
