I still can't get over the amount of cd's you own, it is your job though. Where do you keep them all SCIDB

Hi Gazz,

I keep my cds all over the house. I have cds in every room including the bathroom.

SCIDB

Compare the first two albums (have you got both on LP?) and the first is clearly an analogue recording (natural), and sounds great, but the second sounds very heavily processed/digitised and subsequently is a bit unpleasant on the ear at times, and sounds far more compressed too.

I have both albums on CD and Vinyl, A rush of blood gets played much more often than Parachutes as I prefer the songs on it ( nothing to do with basic sound quality) , I always thought that A Rush of blood sounded brilliant to my ears, so much so in fact that if i was demming any new equipment where Vinyl could be part of the replay chain I used to use it as one of my references as I knew it so well. It just goes to show that we all see and hear things differenently.

The Only thing that pissed me of about Rush of Blood was that they packaged it with a glossy card inner sleeve ( 10/10 for quality ) unfortunately during transit this card shed millions of tiny dust particles that clearly marked the Vinyl. I sent two copies back to Amazon because of this, and kept the third even though the problem was still evident, notwithstanding this the marks are not audible at all and A rush of Blood to the head surprisingly remains one of my very quietest Vinyl recordings , testament to the quality of the recording and the materials used forthe disk , if not the packagng.

You made the comment that the album was subsequently unpleasant on the ears at times, whilst i think that you are entitled to an opinion and i respect it , i don't agree with it at all.

Keane...... I just don't get. Completely passive boring wank

Yey - so it's not just me who thinks THAT too then??? :)

OK - so Coldplay's live set on Radio1 last night makes me want to see them at Glasto, but I'm not buying the new album either based on the odd track I've heard (non-live) on the radio.

Methinks Coldplay are a live band first and foremost.

BTW - re Radiohead's "The bends" - Michael Eavis gave out free razorblades for the people who went to see them on the Pyramid Stage at Glasto in 2003. (only joking! - I stayed at t'Other Stage for the Super Furries :))

The Radiohead concert in Warrington a few years ago was THE BEST gig I have ever been too - and there has been many!

He has a lot of pronouncements and advice for all of them

Isn't that just the problem with the self opinionated tosser. Whining on about fair trade and saving the bloody planet whilst making obscene riches himself from the most vacuous pap imaginable.

I am not a fan.

Bob

Im not a fan of coldplay and the bands mentioned in that original post, tbh they bore me to death and Id quite happily give em a slap. But surely its good that musicians who write their own songs, are capable of performing live and do not come pre-packeged are attracting the attention of the average listener. There will be people who start to read mags like Q and mojo as a result of seeing them on the front cover and discover decent music as a result.

To me, its incredible that the likes of coldplay and their clones top the album charts whilst the likes of Rufus Wainwright, wilco and the like struggle to get into five figure sales. ****secretly I like having a music collection that contains artists my friends call obscure, gives me a sort of cred with them, but thats our secret. ****

Surely its a good thing if someone at this level of commercial visibility shows an intrest in Fair Trade etc?

I dont think he uses it as a marketing gimmick.

Purleese!

That's why he has it written all over him when they perform then.

Bob

LOL, you REALLY dont like him do you Bob?:)

Its better than having Pepsi or MacDonalds written on his hands is it not?

I dont care if a pap star uses charitable causes to further there personal cause - thats a win-win situation in my book.

!!!! I saw em on TV over the weekend somewhere and Martin didn't seem to have a clue what to do with himself on stage when he wasn't sitting down. Just spent most of the time hopping around on 1 foot with one arm in the air. Desperate stuff indeed.

He is so, so dire. Zero charisma, exactly like his wife.

The melodies in Coldplay songs are almost insultingly simple: back to the nursery.

Aah yeah, but I'd not say no to the right "fifteen minutes" with his wife - yummy!

I've not "seen" Coldplay live, either on telly or IRL, so was going on what I heard on Radio 1. Certainly seems a bit more peppy than their studio work.

Travis - well, their FIRST album "Good feeling" is actually pretty good. Much better than "Die band poo" or "The derisable band".

Oasis WERE damn good fun, until they released "What's the story" - as for their coke-ravaged latter output, it'd probably sound better if you burnt it. At least the crackling sounds would have an original sound, unlike the music... NOTE - I LOVE "Definitely maybe" and "Whatever".

I love to hear my daughter (an avid nu-metal ska-punk devotee) go into rant mode about Travis, Coldplay and their ilk. Reminds me of my yoof in the 70s when ELO and Supertramp were the antichrist and the Sex Pistols, the Ramones and Patti Smith were the saviours of rock.

Half Man Half Biscuit had Blur in mind when they sang of

'Four skinny indie kids
Drinking weak lager in a Camden boozer'

But the description is equally valid for the vapid likes of TRavis and Coldplay. Music for whingers.

Ah yes, but Blur are (should really say were) rather good and Coxon on his own is storming good.
