His favorite song was 'teenage kicks' apparently.

I want to have 1/2 the breadth of musical taste he enjoyed one day.

NB
currently playing Massive Attack 'Blue Lines' bought for 1.75 today :D

And now The Adverts, "Gary Gilmore's Eyes". I may have to dig out my copy of Crossing The Red Sea With The Adverts for the first time in a million years.

-- Ian (thinking about knocking up a pair of bondage trousers for the full effect)

Circle, Alotus. Recent album from Finnish space-rock giants, co-produced by Jochen from Faust and released on Faust's Klangbad label. A lot less guitar than some of their earlier records, but very groovy indeed. My current candidates for Absolutely The Best Band In The World At The Moment status. Live, they are simply phenomenal.

Rachid Taha - Tekitoi Track 2 "Rock el Casbah" features Brian Eno on synth and background vocal, which should help shift a few units. This is a seriously rocking album, the man has anger "Issues" and that's always good for "Art".
Khaled - Ya-Rayi oops, (the Rai singer formally known as Cheb) Khaled goes Country and Western!!!!!!!!! one for the reminder pile I suspect. I was listening to some of his early work today: voice, cheap drum machine & cheesy synths - sublime. Oh well, win some lose some.
Enzo Avitabile & Bottari - bonkers Italian with huge medieval percussion and lots of world-type friends. Great fun.
Les Sacqueboutiers - Musique a la coeur de Kromeriz - bootiful.

BTW, the best live band in the world bar none are the Orchestre National de Barbes. Unbeatable.

Hifi's been out of use for a few days, so it's been good to fire her up again :)

On vinyl, Lou Reed "Transformer"
David Bowie "Hunky Dory"
Rod Stewart "Gasoline Alley"

On CD, Bob Marley & The Wailers "Burnin"
Death In vegas "Santa's Circus"
REM "Around the sun"
Sigur Ros "Ba ba/Ti ki/Di do"

and currently a compilation thingy I picked up for a few quid a few years ago but don't think I've ever listened to. "Hot Jazz Biscuits"

Anthony Braxton, Six Monk's Compositions. Braxton plays Monk, exceptionally well too, terrific LP. Fine band, Mal Waldron on piano, Buell Neidlinger on bass, Bill Osborne on bass.

Talk Talk's - "Spirit of Eden" & "Colour of spring"

These are the 1997 remastered CD's and sound so much better than the originals!

Ive bought loads of music these past couple of weeks.

Queens of the stone age - Rated R.

I love this band.. one of the best rock bands in the world right now, according to my taste on what makes a good rock band :D

lots of other stuff too, but I wanted to write about that one :)

I admit I like Queens of the Stone Age. They're the only current rawk group who seem at all like the real thing to me.

Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Blues Du Jour. Charming Japanese faux-naive poppy strangeness, a record I've listened to quite a bit over the past year or so and never seem to tire of. 37 songs on 2 sides of vinyl, most of them around a minute long, and all of them full of playfulness and invention.

Pentangle, Cruel Sister. The best Pentangle album, from 1969. Fantastic - and long - version of "Jack Orion" on this, with Bert Jansch, John Renbourne, and Danny Thompson playing together about as well as they ever did.

Sam Cooke - Ain't That Good News.

Recorded the week I was born - it seems to have aged better than me :(
