Fovea Hex - Neither Speak Nor Remain Silent. 3CD EPs of songs by Clodagh Simonds (Mellow Candle) backed by Hafler Trio, Eno, Fripp and Percy Jones. A bit pretentious but good, in a stark sort of way, nonetheless. Lovely voice.

I've got some tunes from McCartneys latest in my head today. Memory Almost Full. Its a pretty good album with, as you'd expect, some really well written melodic tunes. I only really recently got into him but Flaming Pie and Chaos and Creation in the Back Yard are really good albums too. Especially Chaos... which has some beautiful tunes on it. I know lots of people must be buying the recent albums but I kind of feel like they're still hidden classics. Some of his recent songs are as good as it gets for a singer/songwriter imo, really lovely. I guess maybe he's not releasing all the tracks on the album as singles which always devalues it through overexposure on the radio. There only seems to be one or two singles coming off them so I guess he has the influence to specify that in his contract?
As an aside on the theme I'm really enjoying all the singles off the Cherry Ghost album but I guess when i get around to buying the album I'll be dissapointed to find that I already know every song on there.

I've just been listening to Madeleine Payroux, her first album is a real joy especially the bluessy tracks; its as if she's brough Billie Holliday and Bessie Smith right up to date but made the songs her own. On a couple of tracks she successfully blends an accordion with saxophones -no mean feat!!! Alas her second album is not so good and the third one is best missed!

Agree entirely - got the second based on how good the first was and am sorely dissapointed. First is awesome though - my favourite track is just her singing accompanied by someone of the dobro - from memory I think its called "always a use for me and you" or something like that.

Just received a copy of Luka Blooms - Before Sleep Comes - and its the most wonderful album to put on when you need to doze off. Perhaps not his best but still lovely. He has recorded a mix of traditional and new songs - so verry Irish. He has such a great (honest) voice. A pity the water is wide and I cant crossover to one of his concerts!

A good CD worth a listen even if a bit soporific.:MILD:

Johnny Lang - Lie To Me

Great stuff - blues, rock and boogie ... nothing pretentious just great soul and entertainment ... an excellent antidote to television.
