What is the fuel consumption (km/l or, the good old, mpg) of your motor?

Some one suggested to me the most easy way to tell whether a car has good mileage is by looking at the tank capacity. The reason being most people would like to refill their car roughly after the same distance. Therefore the bigger tank the higher the consumption is like going to be.

My previous old car Honda Civic has a little tank. Tank capacity was 30L which mean at the end of its lifespan I need to tank up again after 250 miles.
Newer Honda has 50L and mileage is 350 miles.
Friend Toyota Avensis tank is 60L and he claim it gives upto 500 miles.

Do you mind keep a record of your motors consumption? I know this might need to take account of the variable driving styles and road conditions eventually.

My dad reckons he gets about 30mpg from his escort but then its all city driving, the car never sees a motorway or least very rarely. The car hasn't been out of Manchester for 1.5 years now but he still does a good 150-200 miles a week.

I get around 30-33 mpg out of my Leon Cupra (1.8T) - 23/24 if I'm having fun :D (all mixed driving, with v. little on motorway) Big(ish) tank though at 55l so I get around 320-330 miles per tank.

My last car (Citroen C3) had a fairly small tank at 47l, but was good for over 400 miles between fill-ups!

18 from the Impreza (decat and big zorst)
22 from the tuned Saab 9-3
and now 38 in a tuned Golf 2ltr TDi

Getting 36-37mpg out of the 330D Sport but I am still booting it a fair bit - I would expect this to go up to 38-39 when I ease off a touch. Should equate to early 40's on a run - not bad considering it has 204bhp and 302lbs/ft of torque.

I just had a nice steady 40 - 55 mph cruise back from work in the wifes 1.2 Punto. I reset the trip computer before i left and it started out at about 45 mpg rising to 60 mpg just as i was pulling into my drive, it usually sits on about 40 - 50 mpg though.

I have owned thirsty cars before and it is quite a refreshing change only having to fill up about once per month, rater than every few days.

between 45 and 55 mpg from my kiddybus depending on conditions.
the lexus was horrific low teens to high teens depending on how vigourously i drove.
cheers

63-67mpg from Fiat Punto 1.3 multijet. (70@4000 bhp / 133@1750 lb/ft)

49 litre tank gives me 650-700 miles on average.

If i drive it like a grandad on the motorway i get 75+mpg

Oh, and tax is £85 a year!

My BMW 328 does about 30mpg on a motorway run, but would fall to the low 20's if I drove it around town all the time.

Not bad going for such a big engine I reckon.
My BMW M3 does about 30mpg on the m-way if I average around 90mph but this can drop dramatically to around 16-17mpg in town. IMO it's amazingingly economical for an engine of such size (3.2L) and power (321hp). In my Ferrari (3.4L, 300hp) I would barely get over 20mph on the motorway  .

EDIT: tank capacity in my M3 is about 60 litres...but I think that's the same for all of the E36 BMWs from the lowly 316i to the M3. With the type of driving I do I'm lucky if I get 500kms (300 miles) out of a tank...bearing in mind that I almost never use the last 10 litres as I'm paranoid about running out of fuel  .

Still, I'm looking forward to 50mpg+ when I get my 320d Touring :)

Michael.

My Boxster S 550, does between 18-22 mpg round town. Motorways see it at 28-30 and having fun sees 16-18 which I thinks pretty good for a 3.2l flat 6 engine?

Wow, bottle, I have a brava 1.4, too, its great, does getting on for 40 ish overall.

my dad has a civic 1.4, newish, and that does similar, both nicely economical.

I was tempted with a lexus, Julian, but will pass now, as of the mpg...that bad?
Years ago I had a senator 3 litre 24 valver straight 6, and couldn't even get 20 combined on a run town+m-way, I sold it after 2 weeks!! of paying 40 squid a week for petrol, I was used to a tenner a week with a turbodiesel.

fiats seem quite popular here.

so do vw group, skoda diesels are meant to be good.
