Get well soon, it'll teach you to cycle in Chorlton!
Send him my best! I sincerely hope the cycling days are not over - couldn't comment about the knees but I know from personal experience one can make speedy and full recovery from a femur break. I suppose it depends on the details, but I hope he isn't in too much pain now the initial period is over, and isn't getting unduly depressed about the prospects.
do we know anything about the accident..? - was it a car driver or something..? - if so, was the driver detained etc..?
I heard that Joel once.... ......managed to blow his speedometer by going so fast on his approach to a ramp positioned to jump on his bmx from Nagasaki to Akan-ko! Legend!
He rode at high speed into a stationary truck that was parked on a blind spot. Thankfully, the truck was undamaged -- Ian
I remember another friend of mine, Justin, broke both legs falling down Mt McKinley whilst on an army expedition. On his return from hospital in Canada, we threw a dance in his honour. I hope Joel is spirited enough to see the funny side of that just as Justin was.
Saw this thread late...sorry to hear about your accident, a truck eh count yourself lucky! All the best for as speedy recovery as possible. With all that time on your hands maybe you can help me with a crossover design.
I'm not a regular here -- this is post numero uno -- so I learned about Joel's accident quite a bit after the fact. Here's hoping for a full and speedy recovery, Joel. If you haven't already done so, seek out the best rehab specialists you can find so you can regain your strength and range of motion. Joe
I saw him again yesterday, and he's still immobile, but able to use a wheelchair, so he can at least move around the ward a bit. He sends his thanks for all the good wishes. No doubt he'll be online again in the next few weeks and posting regularly, he'll have lots of time on his hands -- Ian
Joel, I'm sorry to hear about this. I hope you're back on your feet as soon as possible. It will take a while, but Mt Fuji will still be there. If you need any virtual rehabilitation advice, drop me a line. duncan
He should be out of hospital by the end of October, but will probably be on crutches for a while and have a few months of physio. He's should be online soon, so no doubt he will be around when he is to report any news. -- Ian
Hello Cruel World! Actually, thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. The boys kept me up to date while they were here and I am really touched. Anyway, I'm back online, if not quite back on my feet yet Had the last of my "stitches" out this evening (Right knee cap, and the stitches are actually metal staples) and start light physio tomorrow. Collarbone has set, so I have 1.5 arms available now, and am not to be seen doing my excellent Dr Strangleove impersonation quite so much. I want to be out of here and back home and everything is healing nicely, but it takes time and I know these things can't be rushed. Anyway, more later joel
