What has firing out the side got to do with it? Bass is mainly about moving air, so I would have have thought side, top or bottom would be fine as long as the room interaction doesn't hurt the response.

I must have heard these boys and thought they are alright coz. I've got the brochure, but you know what I can't remember what they are like, cost etc...

Any idea if the Amphions would be good for dance/chillout/rock etc? Do like something on the different side of the norm when it comes to buying hifi myself!

I wasn't comparing them with SBLs but with Schubert on a real piano, which I am fortunate enough to hear every day
    ;)

Of course you know that Schubert had very short arms so he couldn't reach the low or high notes. :D

IMO, it usually depends on what is upstream of the speakers. The big Kryptons are are I believe £8K, but they do a smaller floorstander and standmount which would be much less. TBH, I think they'd be a very poor match with Cyrus gear.

    Robbo,

You could be have hit the nail on the head, metal domes & Cyrus gear, a match not made in heaven.
As with all things spec's and real world seldom meet. Especially when the retail price tag goes into 5 figures. Though the biggest single issue is very rarely addressed. The Room & placement, best of all it costs just your time & no $£$£$£, even woofie would be agreeable here.

Do we know within what limits the response is 22-20kHz?

I'll post a few thoughts on the show later, but....

I played an NuJazz piece in the Laverdin/Amphion room and it grooved. The Finnish guy running the room took down the details it really was that good.
Took it to the Chord room and it sounded like a piece of Ambient chilldown. The Chord guy didn't like my response when he asked what I thought.

    Bah

    Disgusting!

Who wears the F***ing trousers

When di anyone go to a gig and see the PA bass bins pointing at the bleedin' fire exits?

A sad lack of real men's speakers were on display - all farty attempts to make things domestically acceptable (AP, Neat, Dynaudio, Meadowlark :D ) sounding wimpy with disjointed or absent bottom ends

If they were pants Tony, they'd be Farrer slacks

BTW, got that Velodyne tuned in to the little Proacs now :)

Corking subwoofery - could well be a solution for those in fear of BWFH.

Hey Merlin, just for your amusement. My daughter thought the Proac Response D38 (I think) were the best speakers she heard on Saturday. I suppose they can't be any good if a 16 year old likes them :D .

Your Daughter has taste Dev :D

Seriously, Proac are making a few great speakers at the moment, for me the 1sc, D38 and D100 are as good as anything in their market sectors.

Tony, using the trouser analogy, your Meadowlarks always reminded me of those American jeans with the jumbo seat ;) Bub's propably still doing drainpipes though.

Maybe some jodpours would be more to your liking sir?, or some nice stiff leather lined breeches, outstanding choice if I may say so sir, Pimms with those D100's or are you more a G & T man?

Expensive tastes there then Dev :D

Guess that'll mean the system upgrades will be scarce given her age ;)

Tony if the D100's were a trouser, they'd be a pair of levi 501's ;)
