I think you are just stating an opinion - correct me if Im wrong. I think Vinyl, CD and SACD all have strengths and all have weaknesses. Depends what you are looking for I guess. I like all three.

your right they do have there weaknesses just sacd and cd have more. i have tried many cd players over the last 20 years including wadia, linn cd12, and still find the lp playback far far better (but you need a high end deck though) and good cartridge and phono stage, i'm using a trichord diablo, and it is amazingly good

I appreciate your opinion and I could well agree with you, but others with exposure to high end TT fronted systems would still consider Red Book their fave.

If I had to settle on one of the three it would be vinyl because I couldnt get the vast majority of my software on another medium. Yet whilst I love handling it, I'm not fond of storing it and transporting it is a pain in the ar5e

In favour of 5" disks - I like the convenience of being able to listen to more than 20 odd minutes of music without having to get up. Of course a media server is even better for both storage and convenience.

I've enjoyed the SACDs I've purchased so far very much, but since buying a SACD player I've bought substantially more CDs than SACDs. This is mostly because I tend to buy used disks and again the styles of music I tend towards are not typically published on SACD.

    Just my experiences to date.

you are dead right for day to day listening cd is by far the best option, but for that serious audiophile listen vinyl wins easily every time. and yes i preffer cd to sacd smoother sounding. i am just giving my honest opinion thats all

I think you've just proved my point for me Rudolph. Good vinyl systems are generally expensive, require a lot of setting up, maintainence and care from the user. Good vinyl itself is also expensive & hard to come by.

Whereas Joe public could just buy the NS900V, turn it on, slap in an SACD and get a very respectable sound (IMO) for a £150 outlay and 2 minutes work.

Yep - I agree CD12's & Wadias - very cold. Freezing, in fact

IME - I wouldnt say a good vinyl system is especially expensive, I'd say typically you have to spend far more on a CD player to match a TT decent for most aspects of it's performance (TT dependent of course). Perhaps the NS900V is an exception.

In some cases TT's arent much trouble to set up at all, in some cases they are tricky to say the least.

I'd also disagree with the notion that "good" vinyl is expensive and hard to come by.

I havent heard the NS900V, but if your expressed opinions prove reflective then it sounds great value and of course of very convenient.

No offence, but I havent found the Gyrodec to be the last word in TT's. Perhaps this further illustrates your point.

I would add that Tony has had good exposure to some heavyweight TT setups. He still digs his Red Book.
