The real problem is that 'Zerogain' means the volume is turned right down, and 'your handle to the missing groove' is nonsense.

I had the domain name zerogain.com long before I ever imagined I'd be running a hifi forum. When groovehandle.com passed away, I wasn't using the domain for much and it was the easisest way to get something up and running quickly and it was vaguely related to hifi, that's how the name originated.

"Your handle to the missing groove" is an oblique reference to groovehandle.com, the ancestor of this forum.

Michael.

I know what it's a reference to, but it still doesn't make any sense, especially a year or two on.

A groove could have a handle, in which case 'Your handle for the groove' might at least scan... Groovehandle was a great name for a forum. But so's 'Potatohead'.

FWIW 'swwg' is 'Straight Wire With Gain', the acronym of ultimate accuracy.

You could read it as "your way into finding out why your system doesn't 'groove' as it should". Groove being a synonym for boogie in this case. I'm using the word "handle" in the sense of "I'm trying to get a handle on it" meaning to grasp, understand, find out about.

Anyway, it's only a forum, I don't take it that seriously :)

Bemcsa, why do you have a picture of my woman as your avatar?

I have to say I really like the spectrum - although it did look better on the black background. It probably needs a border to make it look more like a display though. LCD is very clever - but I would go a long way to avoid having anything with as naff a display as that. And I'm afraid I'm off of Joel's Xmas card list too - it looks like the results of a particularly heavy night on the booze (and I'm right out of Lagavullin ATM too  ). At least it's better than the minimalist though - the only place that'd look right is as the titles to some particularly self-avowedly hip'n'trendy '60s drama.

For those that think spectrum looks like gambling chips (and the government seems to be doing their best to please you with their latest bright idea) how about these as alternative mental images:
a) The Manhattan skyline (probably pre 9/11), possibly as seen from the Staten Island ferry or, even more closely on the road in from JFK.
b) That wonder of modern architecture and low-cost living - London's Barbican
c) for those in the frozen North with longish memories, the Hume Crescents, part way through demolition (of those bits the residents hadn't got at first :D )

Bah. I have no sympathy for a man who fails to maintain an adequate supply of household essentials.
The one I made was OK IMO. It served it's purpose, which was to give a low-key visual ID. Logo and colour scheme were designed to be low key and a bit boring because our research indicated that forum use generally peaked between 11:00am and about 3:00pm (UK time) on weekdays and I didn't want to be getting anyone into trouble for browsing audio fora when they should have been writing long-winded reports ;)
I reckon it worked, too. None of you shower complained or started threads about the logo as I remember. Only Birkett complained.

FWIW: Groovehandle does have a meaning, but it isn't connected with audio (well maybe, but very indirectly).
Here's a clue: I use a Nuova Simonelli semi-automatic "1 Gruppo" with a "Portafiltro Professionale" at home.
