    Neil,

those were mine. Some of us think they are preferable to Meadowlarks in just about all departments. The bass you hear at Tony's is primarily the room which is great.

You have a very special pair of loudspeakers there - just make sure you feed them properly!

SM - Thanks very much (indirectly) for the speakers! I'm working on their diet as we speak - as they have the tube harness they suit my KIT 88 (well modded) pretty well, the front end needs a bit of sorting but that's in hand.
I need to work a bit on placement - I'd like to try them firing diagonally.

John if you are serious about spending big money on standmounts then for gods sake check out the PMC AML1's! I have never come across a more capable standmount. Not many people have heard them it seems, but those who have, love them, even people who don't normally like PMC.

I don't know where you are but your welcome to hear mine if you like.

Ahh I see you are in London, you should definitely have a listen. Ideally I need a better DAC but I may be able to borrow one from somewhere.

Bobby the manufacturer often dems them at shows firing diagonally. The important thing is to keep them less than 7 ft apart in my experience.

Because of the front firing port, which is tuned to 37hz, they can be a pain to position in a UK living room (Much like the Harbeths). I sadly get a lot of bass issues in my room so VSM's were out. But TSM's will be on their way soon!

Email Alan himself, directly (PM me for mail addy, or check out the website). Yes, they do Jazz and much more besides. Not the only choice by any means, but well worth checking out IMHO.

Several mentions of AP speakers, but having had the smaller Sparks in a slightly larger room, I'd have thought they would have needed more breathing space TBH. Great speakers though.

I would also consider spendor and pmc if you are considering the harbeths. A pro audio shop will do you a pair of PMC IB1s with stands for less than £3k or so and they will beat the AP at £8k. I preferred them even to the B&W 800. That view wont be popular here but I am wearing my asbestos underpants ready!

    John,
You might also want to check out the Sonica Allegrettos. Apparently very good indeed.

Yes, the same. Sonica is intended to be his vision, though.

The company name is Sonics by Joachim Gerhard. He has parted ways with Audio Physic.

I've heard the Allegrettos a few times. Really very, very good, and if my room was a bit smaller, I'd be very seriously tempted.

Have you heard the Vivid Audio speakers? They do a floorstander at around £11k and a standmount at I don't know what. The stand is an integral part of the speaker though so it won't be any less stable than a floorstander. Personally I don't like them, but you might! They go very low for the size of drivers they use and have backwards firing ones as well.

Okay they don't go that low only 35Hz. I was told by someone they went to 17Hz!

still a few months away from the necesary cash but still pondering.

i'm not going to have much time for any auditions. to be meaningful they'd have to be at my place or at least with my kit or similar.

i still like the idea of picking up something s/h and part exing my existing speakers in one hit. Nice and easy does it.

hovering the net makes me think that a s/h pair of mezzo utopia's might be a good plan. any body else heard them on the end of an evo4?
