Don't forget problem at Leeds when Woodgate was sold without the knowledge of, and much to the anger of, an ex-England manager - who was sacked shortly afterwards. Another (spooky) coincidence?

But no, no way can I see Newcastle getting relegated. Too rich. Though if they do, then the curse of Lee Bowyer must be real.

    Who's he gonna chin first?

It could be that Souness - who has a record as a strict disciplinarian who is not averse to chinning his own players - was appointed because of the obvious dissent that has appeared in the Newcastle squad of late.

Or that they couldn't get McClaren, Allardyce, Curbishley, O'Leary or Bruce.

Not to mention Hitzfeld who was also apparently approached.

It makes a change for the barcodes to be a laughing stock instead of Manchester City

As much as it pains me to say it, nobody is too good or too rich to be relegated (except maybe Arsenal, Chelsea and Man U).

    Like Celtic mO ;) ?
And their stranglehold on the SPL, buying up all the decent players from the other SPL teams and stealing the majority of the TV revenues  ?

I wouldn't mind seeing MaUre or the Arse relegated :D .

It's my bad fortune to support the mighty Clarets. However, as a result I can watch the Premiership far more dispassionately. I have to say that, over the last few seasons, Man U and Arsenal have brought more pleasure with their styles of football than any other teams. At the moment Arsenal are simply stunning to watch and I'd hate to see them go down. Of course, playing as they do there's little chance of that.

No reason why they can't offer to distribute it a bit more evenly to help out the rest of Scottish Football. Remember, they're part of the SPL : Self-Preservation League.

    That'll be Burnley then. :D

One of the best away days I've had was at their ground. They have this silly tune they all dance to when they score a goal. It was cruel really but as we stuck 4 past them we sang their song at them. I enjoyed the nationwide more than the premiership. More character to the grounds and more fire in the belly of the real fans. Every game was a cup final for the team you were playing. I wouldn't worry too much if you end up there Paul :D

The Man City defeat was a turning point for the club that led, eventually, to the replacement of Stan Ternent by Steve Cotterill.

I should probably thank you guys.

If the "old firm" sold their inividual rights, they'd be worth as much as any individual team in Britain/Europe/World.!!!

As things stand, we're being drained by a below par leeching legue.!!!!!

I believe Scottish fitba comes first, but stil we're being done over! When a team like wolves makes More MOney through tv than "we" do, then things are obviously wrong.

Celtic are one of, if not THE biggest supported team in the world. We share a HUGE aMOunt of revenue through the leauge!

    Bleh!

    Beer! YAY!

Since the collapse of ITV Digital, Wolves and other non-Premiership teams don't make anything like the television money that Celtic make.

In fact, Celtic make far more TV money from one Champions League game than Wolves make all season. It goes without saying that Celtic would rarely, if ever, get into the Champions League if they were a part of a proper competitive league.

mO, the SPL TV revenue [league only] is approx. £10 Million a season. The first 50% of this is split equally among the teams. The other 50% is split depending on final table position. Given that Celtic and Rangers always finish in the top 2, they always receive the lions share. On top of that there is the £10 to £17 million to be gained from the Champions League.

Celtic's problem is that because they are omni-present at the top of the league, they have no competition. As they have no competition the games are pretty much one-sided and TV companies aren't interested in this because it starts to grind after a while. Celtic are NOT going to escape the SPL for the EPL so they have to do something about improving the quality of Scottish football instead of sucking up all the money and letting everyone else rot.

Trust me, I'm a Falkirk supporter - I know all about the SPL  !

Well done Newcastle for picking up 3 points at Southampton. I watched the 2nd half and you did well to get 3 points with a defence as (on paper) as crap as it was. Great goal by Carr but Shearer & Kluivert ? Hmmmmm.

Good result. The team looked far more organised than in the past, perhaps not as pretty at times, but gritty and determined performance against a side which put plenty of effort in themselves.

Shearer played very well and Kluivert is looking like an inspired signing by wor Bobby, I think it could be a good partnership.

And yeah, Carr's goal, very good! He put in a good performance today too.

Apparently its the first Newcastle league victory away to Southampton in 32 years and is our first away victory in the league for about 10 months IIRC.
