PMC are typically not very generous. I was offered an pair of ST after the SST came out at just 10% discount. If they offered a 50% discount then it might well be b-stock or a show dem model. It sounds too good to be true. PMC sell to the distributors at that price.

No only a couple and those a very long time ago - over one particular thread, where I did shamefully give into baiting.

Most people email me about bryston, pmc, wna, phono stages, passive pres etc etc or emails egging me on from people that enjoy my antics. Usually as they pertain to you as often as not Markus ;)

    Markus,

I have a similar issue (but my bass goes up the stairs :D ). Speakers are currently Shahinian Obelisks. Do you have any tips short of trying bigger speakers to lessen this effect?

    thanks
    Matt

'fraid not. It's really an acoustic nightmare, and the Ob is already one of he few speakers which have half a chance of working in this scenario. You need something with big bass, or possibly some eq.

I'd advise ayone with the space to consider these mb2's. If I won the lottery I'd commision a concrete bunker of a solid house, grand designs style, with the biggest ever pair of PMC's, Heaven :p

Certainly the mb2s will fill any space with powerful taut and accurate bass. Even Merlin recommends them as having such unnatural ability in this area that they can be considered to possess "stunt bass" and thats a firm recommendation in anybodys book!

So you are not going to 'activate' your passives then?

Nope, afraid not my friend, I am more than capable of running my own 'design of experiments' ;)

But as one other member said,...'life's too short',...so enjoy them if that's your thing.

Are you certain it wasn't the room? PMC's are not the last word in un-coloured sound but they are a lot better than most.

Blimey, you PMC owners are beginning to sound like ATC fanboys! :)

Speakers are a very personal thing and if experienced listeners say they find them coloured then I think it would be best to simply accept their opinion, rather than to suggest reasons why it isnt the speakers.

The studio pmcs are neutral - or shoulkd I say more neutral than 95% of other speakers.

Being an "experienced listener" means nothing - as two sets of experienced listeners may disagree. I cant just accept others opinions unfortunately - as they are often wrong - its the scientist in me :p

Tenson - no I have fouind some actives to buy.

Why, an expert in hi-fi matters, of course! I think you are selling yourself short - or perhaps it's an exercise in online (false) modesty?

I rank you equal to Thosten Whatsisname, here, for expert and impartial advice in all acoustical analysis matters where hi-fi is concerned. I firmly believe that some people are born with superior hearing abilities - and I'm sure that you & Thorsten would agree, gifted as you both are! The nice thing about you both is that you give your advice so freely, and without a hint of condescension.

    In awe,

    Bub.

I fear I cant match thorstens expertise - on hifi matters - though on philosophy it might be a different matter ;)
