Too many doors and a desperately naff exhaust. Next! Paul
I usually drive a Honda Civic 1.5 with some letters after that VTEC? Although it claims 125 HP you only get them at very high revs and, at that level of pushing, the car is rather understeering and not very fun to drive. I bought it because it is reliable and I don't have to think about it. Occasionally I drive powerful cars - sports and sedans. My father owns a top Citroen Xantia model (biturbo), but I really don't like it: too large and too unstable at really high speed. One of my brothers has a very powerful Opel Omega. It is a beast to handle - it is so heavy it doesn't really break -, but rear traction makes up for it. If I chose a car for pleasure I'd go for the Honda S2000 (Michael will say it is a pimp's car - well, perhaps, but it is rather good). Again, no trouble and a great car. It is a bit tricky to drive, though. If the tail begins to slide out you must have quick reflexes and really know what you are doing. Otherwise it is very probable that you crash or at least lose control. Porsches, of course, are perhaps my favourite cars, because they really are oversteering and very powerful. But if you know what you are doing most of them will respond very precisely. Why don't I have a Honda S2000? Because I have other priorities in life - all rather expensive. I used to race cars and powerful karts when I was younger. When I want adrenaline I go to the track with my brother's kart (you can achieve 250Km/h on a really long straight) and make a few laps. But I feel less and less tempted. Racing is a dangerous sport and I am not growing any younger. I am still fast, but I get tired rather quickly. And, what is more, I don't feel the urge to be first on track. So, the Honda is about right for me.
I have an inherited Land Rover Discovery and half a 1000BHP/tonne single seater racing car for hillclimbing. Paul
after getting rid of my 2001/Y Fiesta on the basis it was too small for me, I have the pleasure in owning Vauxhall Astra 1.7dti 16v Once it has a nice SQ stereo in it (already has Nakamichi h/u) and maybe some white 17s (i know, i know) i'll be over the moon nice pics paul. looks nice when its clean
Nice car Paul. There great them Fabria's. This is my dads car its a 1995 N Reg Escort 1.6LX Zetec, despite some trouble with it last year it runs like a brand new car now. Its done 75k and worth not much more than my HIFI system! He paid £1800 for it in October 2002, it will be worth about £1300 so thats not bad in terms of depreciation.
I share the car with someone, helps moderate the costs. It runs a Cosworth DFR which is in F1 tune except for 4-2-1 exhausts rather than 4-1, so we lose 20BHP at the top end in exchange for a bit more down at 8000rpm. Sounds great and is the only thing I've ever driven where the acceleration buzz doesn't wear off within a day or so. Paul
Paul, I'll bring my camera to Prescott, I used to climb a mere 350bhp/680 kg unit, you'll be in the big boys class with that wagon, hill record 35.7sec? full coarse. Hillclimb the most expensive form of motor spot
I'd love to do stuff like that, but I presume you'd have to be loaded to get into it? If not how do you get into stuff like that?
I've driven a couple of formula cars at track days. They don't qite match the adrenalin rush of a motorbike but they're good fun non the less Here's my day to day transport. Merc E320 CDI Avantgarde. It's got gobs of torque and will pick its skirts up quite nicely if you ask it. Not bad for something the size of an oil tanker
My car being trailered in, still nowhere near finished restoring it 2 years later keep cutting more and more bits out of the poor bugger Still, when she's finished she'll have the heady heights of 40HP, Not bad eh!?! (drive a rover 620 the rest of the time but shhhhhh. about that )
Don't worry. Maybe you and Timpy can start a self-help group? Michaelab - I think I've just figured out what to rename this smily: :NADowner:
you a current or ex aircooler then! groooovy! My wings are ok, but its so long since Ive seen the doors I have no clue as to their condition so may get back to you on them. Just chopped the whole front end off today only to find that, surprise surprise, the mexican new front end dont bloody fit and leaves the fuel tank at a funny angle and makes the bonnet not fit right. Typical.. Andy
can i join? i looks like my next car will be a with a mighty 105 bhp turbo weasel engine. still it'll run on chip fat when civilisation collapses. cheers julian
