Received the SB3 today but can't connect to Slimserver

Hmmm, this is bizarre, the computer and SB are now communicating, but the SB has lost the internet.

Are you on the PC running slimserver, or on the mac at the moment? I just need to check that the PC is connecting to the internet itself.

Also, what router is it?

The screen goes blank when it can't find the server, pressing the back button will bring it back on again and hopefully let you access Squeezenetwork

If it does manage that, go to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services, click on slimserver and press restart

On the PC, its in:
Start - Settings - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services

There will be one called Slimserver, click on it and press restart

Once it has restarted, try accessing it from the SB

OK, didn't even know this Service thing existed.

Selected SlimServer, clicked Restart, had no indication that it actually restarted (?) but tried again from SB and got same "Can't connect ... " message.

Which firewall do you have on the pc?

As a quick test, can you turn of the firewall briefly and try the SB again and let me know if that makes any difference (it doesn't need the internet so you can disconnect if you would feel happier)

I got the Windows XP firewall. Deactivated it. Still got the same "Can't connect ... " message.

I suspect I may have another firewall packaged with my anti-virus (Trend Micro's Pc-cillin) let me check

It says :

Your player was not found

Also says something about a Refresh button. Where is it located?

Its very strange that you can ping the SB, but not connect to it.

In the command prompt, can you type telnet 192.168.0.3 9090

and see what that does, it should change the window name to telnet and just flash

Says its not recognized as an internal or external command, an executable ...

Router is Netgear

gets more bizarre by the minute!

I'd say it still seems like a firewall issue, but if you have the software ones switched off it makes me wonder if there is one blocking the ports in the router.

In the browser go to http://192.168.0.1 and login to the router to see if there is a firewall switched on and if so, what is it blocking?
