My SB2 has been happily working for months when on Sunday it displayed gobbledegook and stopped working. I can no longer open slimserver although I can go to the website. I have checked windows firewall which is allowing access and I have deleted and re-installed slimserver. The SB2 will not re-connect to my wireless network.

    Any ideas?

    thanks

Have you tried a reset on the SB?

Does slimserver open on the PC?

In a web browser, try http://localhost:9000
If that loads slimserver, does it say if a player is connected on the right hand side?

If it doesn't load, it seems to be a software problem.

If it does, its either wireless or firewall. If this is the case, do you have anything else on the wireless network (to check that is working ok).

If nothing here solves it, I'll suggest some more.

I have tried the local host but it does not connect. My daughter can still connect to the net from her wireless networked pc. I have looked in the firewall and slimserver is ticked to be allowed.

It sounds like SlimServer isn't running.

Ok, as a test, try running slim.exe from c:\program files\slimserver\server

If that brings it to life then the software isn't running as technobear has said.

I will try this when I get home. However, when hovering the mouse over the SB icon it says it is running.

Have tried running from c:\program files\slimserver\server. It says already running. I can't access the program.

Thats odd, in the browser, try typing http://your ip:9000 instead of localhost

If you don't know your ip address:
Start - Run - cmd (enter)
    ipconfig /all

If that doesn't work I'll have another think

Very odd, can the Squeezebox access the Squeezenetwork internet radio stations?

That will narrow down the problem a bit more.

Also, try turning off the firewall altogether to briefly test it

I can't get the squeezebox on the wireless network at all. It runs through the setup but fails to connect to the network even though it identifies the network.

That is odd, try rebooting your router (there should be a reset switch on the back) and see if that works

Done that. I have been avoiding removing and re-installing my wireless network but it is looking like I may have to start from scratch. Its the slimserver software not responding that seems odd.

It is strange that it says it is running, but you can't access it.

If it was a network problem you should be able to access it locally, if it was a software problem, the squeezebox should access the squeezenetwork.

One thing you could try, pull the power out of the squeezebox and when you plug it in, hold down number 1 on the remote, this will reset the chips.

I wonder if we have two problems here, some wireless issue with the squeezebox and then a software issue too.

Have you tried the squeezebox connected to the router via a cable to see if the wireless card has failed?

Also, have you installed any software on the PC since it last worked?

I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of this eventually

On the PC running SlimServer, the browser should be able to connect with or without any other network nodes or there even being a wireless network. If it can't then there aren't many possible reasons:

    1) SlimServer is broken

    2) Windows is broken (does file and printer sharing still work?)

    3) The firewall software on the PC is broken or incorrectly configured for SlimServer

On the PC running SlimServer, open a command prompt window and type 'netstat -a'. This will list all the open ports on the PC. You should see some for SlimServer, particularly 9000. If you don't then SlimServer is not working correctly or the PC firewall is preventing it from opening ports.

It lists 9000 as 'listening' with no mention of the SB

Are you running a firewall on the PC?

    If so, which one?

I am using the windows firewall although the router a Belkin has one. I have tried turning off the firewall and then opening the SB software but this did not make any difference.
