The best album from an artist thread.

Funny stuff, differing tastes..
For a start I wouln't go anywhere near the Chillis Californication because it's NOT THE CHILLIS! At least not how I liked them - i.e. as a great Rock Band..
I'd say Blood Sugar Sex Magic and Freakey Styley were the best.

And Miles Davis-wise, I'd put Man With The Horn, Bitches Brew and Agharta at the top..

Otherwise:
Parliament - Mothership Connection
Bootsys Rubber Band - Stretchin Out
Primus - Antipop (or possibly Brown Album)
Jamaaladeen Tacuma - Dreamscape
Jonas Helborg - Bold
Suicidal Tendencies - Suicidal for Life (or any of their Infectious Grooves offerings)

Seems I have to disagree with some of the above choices...

David Bowie: Diamond Dogs (but Hunky Dory runs it a close second)
Yes: Fragile (with The Yes Album in second place)
Pink Floyd: Animals (really tough choice)
Genesis: Trick Of The Tail (with Wind And Wuthering close behind)
Led Zepellin: Physical Grafitti (with Presence close behind)
Black Sabbath: Sabotage (by a country mile)
Chemical Brothers: Exit Planet Dust
Dream Theatre: Images And Words (but there are no bad albums)
Tangerine Dream: Tangram
Dire Straits: Communique
Jethro Tull: Crest Of A Knave
Pearl Jam: Ten (with Vs very close behind)
Sisters Of Mercy: Floodland
U2: The Joshua Tree
ZZ Top: Eliminator
Deep Purple: Made In Japan
Judas Priest: British Steel

That'll do for now :)

Miles Davis - In a Silent Way
Put (electric period) at the end and I'd agree with you :)
Miles' acoustic period is much trickier.
I have a very soft spot for the intensely beautiful ESP, but you could argue that that's really a Wayne Shorter album. I guess "Groovin' with the Miles Davis Quintet" (and what a quintet!) was Miles' apotheosis.

Bugger off ya pass remarkable bampot, this is my list not yours :)

Or is there an absolute in what passes for music as well as hifi these days, personally I thought it was all subjective.

Forgot to add Police - Zenyatta Mondatta.

OK, so you won't be interested in any of these:
Gil Scott Heron - Winter in America
Bily Cobham (as leader) - Spectrum
Fleetwood Mac - Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Then Play On, Pious bird of good omen, Live in Boston - basically anything with Peter Green.

Joel

I have Spectrum and it was a hard choice, but Funky, just edges it for me.

Not heard Winter in America, so can't comment, but will look out for it thanks.

Never really got on with Peter Greene stuff, more of a Stevie fan, thats why I chose that one.

HTH, with my reasons for the list that I so obviously got wrong :)

Fair enough on the Cobham front, although in all honesty, BC has done his best work as a sideman for Miles, Horace Silver and in the CTI "house" band. Far superior to his solo output.
Post Green Fleetwood Mac is cheesy FM socal-rock. I still can't work out how anyone could like that, nevermind prefer it to Peter Green's work.
With Gill Scott-Heron it's a choice between Winter in America and his debut album 125th and Lennox. Both are essential.

NP:
O'Jays - Back Stabbers on a 1972 Sony "Audiophile" pressing. Sublime.

Dire Straits - Love Over Gold
Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
Mike Oldfield - Tubullar Bells 2
The Corrs - Forgiven Not Forgotten
Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien
Michael Jackson - Bad
Phil Collins - But Seriously
The Beatles - Rubber Soul
Ozric Tenticles - Erpland
Paul Simon - Gracelands
Lionel Richie - Dancing On The Ceiling
Enya - Watermark
REM - Out Of Time
Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear
The Cult - Electric
Madonna - True Blue
Genesis - Invisible Touch ( I know I'm going to ridiculed to saying that but who cares ;) )

And some live albums...

The Corrs - Unplugged
Jean-Michel Jarre - Destination Docklands
Dire Straits - Alchemy
Deep Purple - Live In Japan
Queen - Live Magic
AC/DC - The Very Best Of AC/DC Live (oops, a best of ;) )

That's ok Henry, that's not really Genesis, it's PC and his toff pals, No Hackett and no PG just isn't Genesis, as an overproduced synth/pop american flavoured combo, then the album is OK. IMHO of course :)

PS was gonna put TB2 but couldn't make up my mind as think I now prefer the re-recorded TB 2003, more than just a marketing excersise, it's actually pretty good and really is what the original sounded if used new equipment.

Agree with REM, not so sure about Satch, think I would just lean towards, Flying..., also agree with Alanis, but think I prefer Tangerine Dream's Exit.

WM.
you are including live lps,if thats the case, then Made In Japan goes on for my DP recommendation, and i agree re back In Black,so its not Scott, but its brilliant all the same, not one bad track, whereas Highway To Hell has a couple

Saab,

You must try Live in Japan, its streets better than MIJ, plus 3 cd's
Higway to hell is also damn good, but Johnson has had more time to come up with the good, however to come up with B in B after such a short time was sublime

Yep, certainly remeber most of the tracks from that album getting played on various stations when I was on holiday in the US a few years ago. I know it and am proud of it, I'm a sucker for radio friendly pop. :)

TB2 actually prompted me into re-investigate TB1, until then I wasn't that much bothered about owing a copy. Got a copy of TB 2003 too as well as TB3, but TB2 is still easily my fave out of the triology.

I'm not really an REM fan at all actually, Out Of Time was therefore an easy choice, as most people say it's not the real REM which is probably why I like it. Although I also own Green and like that too, but not at all bothered about any of the others.

Difficult choice actually re Satch, I was weighing up between Surfing and Flying, it was very close but seeing as Surfing was the album the first got me into the rest of the Satch backcatalog...
