Diminishing returns is already out I think. It's not cheap and doesn't seem readily available. Perhaps it's only imports i've seen? But i'm waiting to find it for a little less than the £20 I've seen it advertised for so far!!!

Michael, Aim has nothing to do with me sorry. I believe someone else reccomended them. I'll gladly take all future praise though :D

As for when does hip hop end and other forms begin......

I'd class Shadow as hip hop. Without an mc/rapper/vocalist, it is far MOre beat dependant. SCIDB wrote a great post on the thread over on GH IIRC. Mentioned "turntablist" I guess that's the area of hip hop Mr Shadow can be filed :p To me, the MOre confusing bit is, when is it hip hop, when is it rap? I tend to think of hip hop as a musical/beat description, and rap for when it's with mc. But then, what about hip hop with vocals? I tend to find myself refering to what I like as hip hop (vocal or not), and what I don't as rap. But, I do think it's MOre to do with the music side of things that defines what I refer to it as.

endtroducing is probably my fav' non *vocal* hip hop album, while Dr Octagons "Octagynacologyst" is probably my fav' *vocal* hip hop album.

Just got Kid Koalas "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" a week or two ago and he's very much in the turntablist camp! Shows some top cutting and scratching. Uses the scratch noises as an instrument in itself! Get's a nice saxaphone sound going! Got Krush "Code 4109" playing now. :D

For hip hop. I think they were just looking for a nother name :) It's still hip hop of a sort, but tends to be quite minimalist, dark, chill out at times. Obvious names, Portishead, Tricky, Massive Attack, and shock horror! Someone from outside bristol! Archive. I was playing Archives Londinium last night and it's a top top album.

I was just about to mention play in the same way! It did for a while become too big for it's own musical good. But shouldn't be forgot what a good album it is IMO

Michael, I think you melody AM thingy was over on GH. Remember I started a thread about people talking MOre about their kit than the music :D Forgot our previous Avalanches convo and you replied with a Melody am mini review IIRC

thread with few hip hop points here

Hmmm.... someone over on HFC pointed you over here? Strange ;)

GH GrooveHandle was a forum. She came and went too soon. Joel started her up. However, the good ship groove has since been followed up by the Rocket ship ZeroGain! Carrying on and perhaps bettering!

Devon? That there sounds like a Fabric (London) Line up! I was meant to be going to Fabric last friday. UNKLE were there with Ian Brown!!! Couldn't make it though! Next time :D

I've got Telepopmusic but haven't listened to it for a while. ISTR not being overly impressed with it though. Will have to give it another listen.

I think you're right about my Royksopp stuff - must have been GH (RIP) :(

Oh yes, thought of another recommendation:

Goldfrapp "Felt Mountain". Wicked album with the most amazing vocals (Alison Goldfrapp) and wailing synth sounds. Their second album "Black Cherry" is about as different as it's possible to be - it's hard to tell it's the same band  Very 80's and rocky and absolutely nothing in common with the trippy first album. Not bad though, but not as good as "Felt Mountain".

How was the night out in Devon SG???

I ordered Nautilis "Are you Axolotl" used from amazon for a few quid.

Sounds interesting. Anyone heard them before?

MO! the night was ace cheers for asking! lavelle was fantastic tho it was weird when he started, there was only about 30 people scattered round the outside of the floor, he must've wondered why he was playing there ;) still it filled right up within 20 mins or so. The d&b was all in an outside marquee and is a little hazy now, woke up with very sore feet and a smile on my face so it must've been good ;)

never heard of nautilis (thought they were those crazy looking speakers), the review looks intriguing tho, let us know what u think when u get it

nice selection michael, that lot should keep you nice and chilled till the end of the summer, definitely gotta pick up a lamb album, i only have their stuff on comps

gotta get ready for a long hard weekend of hard hard nasty techno starting on the 1st in rome now!

Looks like a good selection to me Michael! Never heard Blue states though. You also have albums by LeMOn Jelly and Blue States called "Man MOuntain"..... a mistake or freaky coincidence?

What was your final selection Jools? If thay've arrived, any thought yet?

sg, everyone should own Lambs Debut album. The others are also good, but the debut one is where it's really at. It's up there (IMO) with likes of endtroducing, mezanine, leftism, worm hole, as essential "dance" albums!

You sound like a proper li'l party`ead! Rome sounds like it's going to be fun! Remember where you leave your head though :D

Delhi9 is OK but not brilliant IMO. The 2nd CD is just plain weird  Someone just playing random slow chords on a solo piano
