Vintage Tannoys

I always thought that RT stood for rectangular, as they also made corner Chatsworths, but I might be wrong. I've seen people referring to some later Golds having foam (Tanoplas) surrounds but having never seen Golds of any size with foam surrounds I always believed that they have mis-identified the rubber roll surrounds that were fitted to some 12" Golds as foam?

The ports look original on shining a docking big halogen light through the cloth on the Chatsworths, so there we go...

I'm reliably informed no foam was harmed in the making of these Chatsworths, so no worries on longevity?

Is tanoplas good? or about to turn into black flakes....

could I have a reply from the saddest/most expert please :p :D

I've never seen a foam type Tanoplas Golds either but recall my first Golds as having 'tanoplas' on the box even though they were obviously rubber....
As for R.T.(note the full stops) they never used that when describing 'Rectangular Yorks' or Lancasters.
Me think they need looking at to see what the surrounds are...If Tanoplas btw they be fooked if rubber they'll last foreverish.

Cooky, are you using the 215s again?

Yeah,
The JBL/Westies are blocking my hallway at the mo' .
In spite of their wonderful/stunning dynamics and bass I found myself missing the point source of the 215's so switched back-the 215's are fairly close in dynamic terms though do lack some of the JBL excitement/boogie but win hands down in imaging terms-my room is just too small for the JBL's I think...I'm really enjoying the switch 215's 1 JBL's 0:)

Thanks for the info Cooky, looking forward to curling up with the cocoa in my old age with the trusty Chatsworths, although someone said something about a Canterbury... No seriously, I'm perfectly happy. I heard (now you'll laugh) Fleetwood Macs Rumours last night, and heres me thinking it was pants on other speakers I've used, and overrated. It sounded amazing, layered instruments and some stunning harmony, I can see now why it was well regarded - finally. Had a rummage on a another tannoy site last night - and blimey - it only scored an 8 out of 10 - the highest score - in their reference section for popular music vinyl!

mine look rubbery too, so good news there. I saw that pair but a little out of my league, I did get mine from Bigears though, great bloke.

I think you might be right Goddammit, I've been out-anoraked! :D

Cooky, you're a *****....

I am sniffing around these Westlake BBSM-12's. They are from a studio in Dublin that's getting redone due to water damage from leaking overhead pipe. Big insurance payout is coming so the owner is looking to shift the old (20 year old) gear fast. Would you beleive these twin 12-inchers weigh 110kg each...Jeez they're ugly though!

Remind me again why this was a scam - I seem to recall that you were unhappy that the seller wouldn't ship them to you before you paid for them?

Tell you what though, these ended last night, was tempted to bid but couldn't be arsed to drive to Fareham to pick them up (and I just sold on my DMT 10's to a mate and don't need more speakers really).

£310 seemed very cheap though!

It's not a guaranteed scam, but he has no feedback score and it doesn't say where he lives on the ebay listing. I bet if someone from Scotland asked him where he lives, he would say the opposite end of the country. He's also charging £20 postage.

Yes, i've been watching those 12" DMT's, but the girlfriend would go mad if i bought more speakers - tempting though. . .

Why did you sell your 10" DMT's?
