Ah ok valve pre I assume? I dont know much about the valve kits out there. What non-diy kit do you own to go with it? I am interested to know more about the deck.

    Hi

This Minimax pre looks very good value for money. It can be had for £699. It is now imported by shadow distribution.

    http://www.easternelectric.co.uk/easternelectric/minimaxpre/index.htm

Looking at the pictures of the insides, there is a choke in the power supply which looks like it could be choke input but not sure.

Like most things, further tweaking and modding can be done but with it being small in size it can be a bit cramped.

    BBV,
Yes it's a valve pre, but not typically valve sounding.
    Non DIY -
    Bel Canto Evo4 power amp
Rega Jupiter cdp (soon to be replaced hopefully)
    Meadowlark kestrel hotrod speakers.
Nearly all cabling and mains treatment souced from our very own WM.

    TT,
Plinth is 22omm diamter 55mm tall piece of slate, this will sit on some large brass cones.
Arm will be on a seperate mouning from the plinth/platter, again made from brass.
Motor will be seperate aswell, probably on its own shelf.
Arm, i have an RB300 with thecno weight and incognito rewire, 10x5 on the end of it.
When the deck is complete i will probably be looking at alternative arm/cartridge combo's.
Would like a pop at a DIY schroeder, but dont have access to the required machinery to manufactur it.

Thanks - thats good, I know not all valve kit sounds valve. I have heard some good stuff. Same as not all solid state sounds bad. Its more to do with the implementation and engineering not the components. Keep me posted about the deck!

    Speakers?

Added speakers to previous post ^^

The TT project is taking a long time, i seem to be busy with everything apart from finishing my toys this year.
When it's finished i will probably stick a post in the diy section, with piccies etc..

It's big by metropolitan rabbit-hutch standards, small by mine.

bubby I already knew that. fortunately its only in respect of the size of our houses ;)

Sure if I lived out in the boondocks I could get a living room your size. In my building they have some flats with 10m * 7m living rooms but they are a cool million.

Indeed. But its a three bed flat with the payment split 3 ways (me taking half of it). Its also pretty nice inside. But the price of a mortage on this flat would be twice as much so I am paying less then interest. Currently waiting for london prices to fall further and for a couple of things to come together that will greatly improve my financial solvency.

That bumps the price up even though North lOndon isnt that salubrious in my area.

Yes shame I didnt buy 5 years ago when I first came to london but for various reasons I held back and then it was too late.

    Hi,

Good ludd. If something as basic and primitive (sonically and design-wise) as the EEMM gets you, what will happen if you ever get some REAL SOTA valve gear (hint, try Euridice)?

Maybe you should do as I did and drop those semiconductors with extreme prejudice as too much hard work.... ;-)

    Ciao T

Thank you T :) , I realise you can do much better without question, however its that match thing for sonics and price.
They do seem to gel rather well, Its not a patch on what on normally use, however it works well & makes pleasing sounds for the outlay, Not heard any of the Euridice do you have any info T?. T
