You lot call youselves audiophiles yet you sit on chairs to listen to music in? The chair will affect the sound quality so you must standup or sit on the floor when listening to music. This is one of RA's free tips. Alternativly you could buy the RA Audiophile Chair at £995 also sold as leather faced excutive chair £49.95 at Argos :p

Actually my chair is too big for my room and it softens the HIFI a lot because it seems to be acting as dampening.

I use one of these Ikea chairs too, in beige. Extremely comfortable, it bounces* and feels a lot like a more stable rocking chair. I've put a throw over it though as the material is a little rough.

    *Uh-oh, does that mean it's a transducer?!

    Dunc,

Why don't you just scrap your SCM20's and get the SCM300's....then you could actually sit inside the bloody speaker cabinet and completely deafen yourself!!!!

I use a great big leather three seater by the way with a big indentation where the 'sweet spot' is.

The listening chair is a vital part of enjoying your music IMO. In addition, choosing wisely can result in a significant upgrade should you be suffering from boomy bass.

The best listening chari is whatever WM used to have prior to F***ing around with his system :D

    I dont have a listening chair :(

My system is in my bedroom and it's a small room. Sometimes I just sit on the floor or on my bed. Still sounds good :)

I was looking at getting a new chair the other day. At the moment I use an Ikea easy chair thing but I find myself slouching as the lumber support aint great. Am tempted by something like this.. [IMG]

    ...one of these.

    John Lewis

Sat on one in the shop the other day and it's probably the most comfortable thing I've ever sat on.

P.S. My first post over here so please be gentle :)

I use a couch with gimbal mounted 3 point suspension.
Isolates the listener from the world quite nicely :D

Seriously - I've just had this vision of 5 toilet bowls with wooden seats on, in a front room - it would certainly look different :) You could put fluffy seat covers on the seats to make them more comfortable...

    Then again, it's a bit of a sh*t idea - boom boom!

My chair's a chavscum (aka Argos) cheapo special. It's shoulder-height, which helps for treble, but I reckon a taller one would both be more comfortable AND help with room bass resonances...

Those Ikea chairs are lush - I wish I'd got a couple of those and a cheapo sofa from there - damn Exeter council!!!! Little Bristol!'s the nearest...

The best sounds I used to get for enjoyment/comfort were in Uni, using the bed as the listening chair (with a motley crue of midi-hifi CDP and ancient amp and midi speakers ;)). Don't underestimate the value of a good chair (I'm seriously considering upgrading the sofa!

Went out yesterday and bought the "POANG" armchair from Ikea, with the red leather cushion.
