I can see it now.

"So why are you returning the chopping board?"
"Oh, it didn't improve the sound of my hifi!"
"Oh that's fine sir. I'll just call the men in white coats"

they get pretty hot on top (class A), or at least the two I had did. Presumeably they lose most of their heat through the top so covering it with a mousemat and granite may pose a problem

Ive never noticed it getting particularly hot to be honest. it never gets more than mildly warm to the touch. If Audiolab were particularly concerned about heat they would have put vents in the top im sure.

Anyways the foam doesnt cover the whole surface of the pre.. the area above the toroid has a small gap of air before it hits the granite (which is a pretty good heatsink anyway)

If it gets too hot i'll take it off again... but i doubt there will be any problems

oh also.. was than an 8000Q pre or an 8000C Martin???

The C to my memory does get hot but no Q ive ever used gets particularly warm.

I've owned both as it happens, but possibly I'm remembering the C more than the Q for heat. I'm not sure now to be honest! Just keep a a check on it and as you say it will probably be fine.

yep... mine doesnt seem to get particulalry warm to the touch... so should be all ok.. it is a really flimsy upper chassis though.. vibrates like mad when music is playing. i know i probably wont get the same level of improvement i got from dampening my cd player.. but it can only help

Got mine a couple of weeks ago. Dropped it on the table getting it out of the cardboard packet. Hid the mark from wife with a placemat.

Shoved under Roksan amp which has Roksan CD player on top. No difference to sound but CD player far more immune now from track skips, etc, which must have been a vibration thing. Might spray the sides gloss matt as it looks a bit odd as is.

WHAT THE HELL!!!!!

I'd have a word with Michael(ab) as I'm sure this happened to someone before.

yeah im not impressed at all!!! have changed the password to something totally obscure though.. so hopefully that'll help

it wouldnt be my first suggestion... they arent amazingly heavy in the bigger scheme of things and also pretty small so they would cause wobble on carpeted floors... if you have a wooden or concrete floor then it would be worth a try.
