yawn...
Billy Woodman would really p**s himself laughing if he ever read any of the ATC threads on this forum..
coops, you're very wrong on this one. I don't doubt that you didn't like what you heard when you went to your Cornflake Shop audition. But I had some ATC 50 actives at home for a couple of months and can confirm that they are excellent speakers. Maybe not your cup of tea, but still excellent speakers. If you want hear a piano the way it was recorded (which is NOT the same as saying it will sound like one played in your room, but that's another subject) there are few designs which are substantially better. And most of those cost a whole lot more. ATC also operate on very sensible margins, Mr Woodman does not drive a Ferrari or anything. Keep in mind that they are entirely made in the UK, mostly by hand. They are pretty good value for money.
Markus I respect your opinion, and my Cornflake dem was four years ago, so perhaps they have changed ( changed tweeter recently I think ) but on that day with Levinson CDP they were real headache inducers. btw I think it might be interesting to record my wife playing and use that recording to tailor the system ( piano and system in the same room).
I heard the same system at the cornflake shop - sounded awful. Even after ML was swapped for naim. ATC makes my ears hurt. Something I personally find highly unpleasant is being added - doubtless others would say the same about my choices
