BelCanto eVo

Just in case, I limited the max volume to reference level, so I dont blow any more tweeters when I get home drunk... :shame:

After one week, the midrange is still too thin for my taste, everything else is perfect... :MILD:

The VDH PC might be contributing, the older ones took very long before they sounded ok, they made the mids agressive and proheminent...

Antonio,

Makes sure both tweeters are replaced. I am sure Proac will always match their drive units.

Cheers

Jason

Centeerrrrr Sperakerrrr, Wot be one o they? Doh!

Cheers

After another week playing TV I auditioned it properly again...

Fantastic how clean, controled and detailed the whole range is, bass, mids and highs, even with discs I thought where not well recorded...

Incredible how it eliminates, or doesn't introduce, any harshness, for instance Rabih Abou-Khalil, "The Cactus of knowledge", before sounded agressive, lots of brass, now even the missus heard it without complaining...

Final test, piano, Arthur Lima playing danças brasileiras from Ernesto Nazareth, it sounded like a Steinway again, great body and shivering, still sweet, highs... :MILD:

Good record. I'm a bit worried though, the brass should sound quite aggressive on this.

Maybe agressive was the wrong word, brass is brass, but with the Bel Canto, it is bright and loud, still doesn't pierce your ears...

3 weeks, the best sound I have ever heard from hifi, thanks for the tip... :respect: :notworthy

Merlin,

Its 3 pints, CC2, ERS and Bel Canto... :MILD:

You are welcome to stay in my house if you happen to come to watch euro 2004, or whatever... :D

I was over at António's house last Sunday and had a listen to his system with the BelCanto now nicely run in. It's certainly sounding very good. In stereo (which was the way we listened for most of the afternoon) it would certainly put many a dedicated 2ch. system to shame.

It had been a while since I'd heard the system with the Bryston power amps and my memory for how a system sounds is very poor (I really have no idea how people can memorize that kind of thing  ) but if you put me on the spot I'd say it all sounded a lot cleaner, detailed and controlled than before - not that it sounded bad at all with the Bryston mind.

We did listen a bit in "surround" mode too. I put surround in quotes because the woofer on one of his SF Signum rears is blown so it was really only the front 3 channels. I think here, using the same amp for the front three channels has really improved the integration of the centre speaker, despite the fact that it's a Proac CC2 and the main speakers are SF EAIIs.

I still prefer the sound of the system in stereo but the difference between the two is much less than it used to be.

IMO the BelCanto looks a lot nicer too :)

Michael.

eVo Upgrade Program

Upgrade your eVo2, 4, 6 or eVo2I to the new Gen II eVo amplifier technology. We replace your complete amplifier board with the latest generation eVo board. This is like getting a new amplifier with the sonic improvements across the board that come from our 4 years of experience with the eVo technology.

Improvements include:

Better low end weight and definition. More open and expressive High Frequencies. Improved mid-band dynamics and resolution.

We achieve these performance increases through the use of the latest Tripath Processor and Driver devices and a completely new 4-layer circuit board layout. All of our experience and digital amplifier expertise has gone into this major performance upgrade. This is available to all owners of the eVo2, 4, 6 or eVo2I amplifiers and is a Factory Upgrade only, eVo amplifiers with serial numbers that end in an m or n already are using the Gen II eVo boards and do not require this upgrade.

I was a little worried with this I just found in Bel Canto's page, but my amplifier's serial number ends in an "m"... :MILD:

So I guess mine is a notch above WM's and Merlin's...

M Or no M, I'm not overly enamoured with the Bel Canto's I've heard. Very good at some things but just not for me I'm afraid.

you may have guessed Antonio that I don't use one, it's plain silly to just recommend kit that suits your own system. My Moon is IMHO, and in my context, a vastly superior amp;)

WM,

I mean before your tweaks, of course... ;)

Merlin,

So now you recommend kit that doesnt suit you... :p
