Anthony Braxton/Max Roach, One In Two Two In One. Duet improvisations recorded live in Willisau in 1979, just re-released by Hat Hut. A combination that probably shouldn't work but does. When Roach starts hammering, Braxton, who's often a bit too cerebral for me, even starts to swing. Excellent record. -- Ian
Hi HenryT, The Motown cd is a fairly recent release. Motown was a label that had a huge hit per release ratio. But there were record that didn't sell well or chart. Add to this, the many session of unreleased material. The stuff is from the golden age of Motown. The mid 60s. Have a look here. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...2/sr=1-208/ref=sr_1_2_208/026-8935365-6106067 Candi Staton has been recording since the 50s. Her stuff up till around the late 60s is mainly gospel. From around late 60s till mid 70s, she recorded on the Fame label. This is the stuff on the CD that I was listening to. In the Mid 70s, she was signed by Warner Bros. It was during this period that she had her biggest hit, 'Young Hearts run Free'. She recorded albums throughout the 70s & 80s. Other bit hits include 'Nights on Broadway' & 'Suspicious Minds' She move back to more gospel stuff in the 80s. The tune by the Source used the vocals from a record that Candi had out in the mid 80s. The uplifting vocal fitted the the dance tune to produce a classic. She has recorded a few dance/soul albums since then. Candi Staton has an very emotive voice & this makes her one of the most under rated soul singers going. One of my favourites. SCIDB
The Farm Spartacus...always puts a smile on my face. Blue Oyster Clut some enchanted evening..haven't listened to it for years, but might give it a spin in a minute.
Fight Club Soundtrack, a bit of music to keep me motivated as I pack up my vinyl and other stuff ready for the shift south.
Just listened to Deodato's "Prelude" and "Deodato2" back to back (on my iPod) - WOW! Joel summed it up in another thread: supah funky Got both CD's last night at the Virgin Megastore on Union Square in NYC along with Oscar Peterson's "Night Train" and Theivery Corporation's "The Outernational Sound" (lined up for tomorrow's iPodding at work) Michael.

TBH I find the slash dot com song a bit annoying. and fatboyslim has probably never heard of slashdot.com XD
Glad you like those two, they are a lot of fun. You might also like to try: this This is different, but actually quite similar underneath. KUDU was an offshoot of CTI, and while the house band is not quite as stellar, it is stil very very good. These tracks really didn't need "remastering" as they are perfect the way they are. Since I have all of Ester's KUDU output on vinyl, this isn't a concern for me anyway
Cheers Joel. Will check to see if I can get it here in NYC before returning back to Lisbon today. Michael.
Tribulations Extra Sensorielles - La Funk Mob Breaking Boundaries Messing Up Heads (Casse Les Frontieres Fou Les Tetes En L'Air) - La Funk Mob A couple of french hip-hop/trip-hop gems from the Mo Wax label.
De La Soul - Buhloone Mindstate. In 1994 I once commented to a hip-hop loving friend that this was perhaps the greatest Hip-Hop album of all time - he laughed, but I meant it. Listening to it again here ten years later - it still remains my favourite(perhaps not THE greatest ) Hip=Hop album to date.
50 First Dates OST - a good collection of songs with some reggea style parts. & Alabama 3 - La Peste (this includes the theme tune from sapranos and an intersting cover of hotel california)
At the weekend Yes - Close to the Edge. Nostalgia purchase. Haven't listened to it for ooohh 20 years or thereabouts. Was as familiar as if I'd listened to it only last week Porcupine Tree - In absentia Kelis - Kaleidoscope Robbie Williams - The Ego has Landed
