It's easily done. He's an intense bugger at times.

Now playing some Hank Mobley, to lighten the mood a bit.

Crikey, that's quite a mix (mind you I had the Ohio Players alternating with Helmut Walcha playing Bach Partitas earlier). The definitive Marlena album IMHO, is "Who is that Bitch Anyway", which is worth getting for the spoken intro alone. Awesome, as is the very wonderful Marlena herself.
This weekend has seen some new old vinyl hit the deck:
Helmut Walcha - Bach Italian Concerto in F Major,Partita in B Minor on groovy red Angel vinyl.
Booker Ervine - the song book an absolutly AWESOME Victor pressing of an awesome album. AWESOME.
Moscow State Symphony Orchestra under Kyrill Kondrashin - Mahler 9th in D Major This is a USSR pressing and vry nice, too. This orchestra seems to get the rhythm and texture thing right, to my ears at least... VG recording and lovely pressing IMHO.
Miles - In a Silent Way Totally mind Blowing early Sony pressing. Amazing if you're coming off a CD version. This was an electric album, but it was also Glorious Analogue. Beautiful.
Eric Dolphy - Far Cry A supreme Quintet seesion featuring Booker Little, Jaki Byard, Ron Carter and Roy Haynes. This is a solid pre-Fantasy Prestige pressing of a wonderful album.
Billy Paul - Got My Head on Straight a minor album by a major artist. Doesn't quite scale the peeks of his earlier work, but I have time for anything by Gamble and Huff that's "Made in Philly".
Paul Chambers Quartet - Bass on Top is a beautiful album featuring Chambers, Hank Jones, Art Taylor and Kenny Burrell (BN1597 Tosh EMI super pressing)
Kalyani Roy - The Virtuoso of Sitar Vol II Another superb Denon recording from the seventies. Is Dev back from lunch yet?
Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Going on Hopefully a *really* good clean will bring this seemingly atrocious pressing up to scratch! Classic album from the great funk-rock band.
Milton Banana Trio - Samba e Isso Another slab of so-fis-ti-cated Braz Jazz fusion from the wonderoulsy named and very talented Milton Banana.
Ohio Players - Ecstacy classic 70s soul from one of the great bands. The album cover still works for me :)
Rostropovitch - Brahms Sonata no 2 in F Major in Mono on Angel red vinyl. Stunning sound.
Alexis Weissenberg - various Chopin things Sounds good to me, but the time keeping sometimes seems a bit leaden. I know nothing, though. Genuione white label on red vinyl in a pristine 1968 pressing.
Jaki byard - Freedom Together! Jaki's most "out" album with the ever presnet and ever awesome Richard Davis and Alan Dawson, as well as Jr. Parker singing!!!! Jaki also makes his debut on tenor sax on this album. Slightly Iffy Fantasy pressing, but I'm unlikely to find an OP anytimne soon.
Franco - joue avec Sam Mangwana more in the endless stream of Congolese Deep Rhumba. Awesome. If you think Buenavista are good, give Franco a listen: he'll blow your mind.
Human League - Dare Dig the eye shadow, the synths, the Nihilistic lyrics. An album that really was before it's time. Great fun, if you Dare.

    Hi,

    I currently listening to

Candi Staton - Candi Staton. An album of some of the best Southern Soul ever. One of my favourite singers of alltime.

    Hi Joel,

'What's happening ....Stateside Vol 2' is an album that have recently come out. It's a sampler of stuff from the EMI imprint, Stateside. The songs promote a number of albums that have been released on Statside label.

Nice covers. I've got most of the erotic ones on vinyl. They feature on a nice gatefold sleeve. Here's one of faves.

Paul Gonsalves, Tell It The Way It Is! Nice early Impulse pressing, great band of Ellington stalwarts. Johnny Hodges is excellent on this. Good session.

Returned from the pub and been attempting to get some work done. Took ages to find the *right* album to get me going. Anyone else find this?

Started with MOby (Play) MOved onto Roni Size (In the MOde), then Jurassic5 (Power in Numbers) then DJ Krush + Toshinori Kondo (Ki-Oku) and now full circle, kinda, with Natural Blues, an album featuring MOst of the tunes samples on MOby's Play, and a good mix of others......
