Currently Spinning

A lazy Sunday afternoon in the company of:

Dan Reeder - Dan Reeder
Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance
Prefuse 73 - Vocal Studies And Uprock Narratives
Slint - Spiderland
Tom Waits - Bone Machine
Tom Waits - Alice

and an evening with:

Hindemith - Kammermusik (Chailly/Concertgebouw)
Khachaturian - Violin Concerto (Mihaela Martin/Kuchar)

Monday is crap in comparison.

Hardware - (Bootsy Collins rock project with Buddy Miles)
Defunkt - Crisis
Nils Landgren Funk Unit - Live in Montreux (again, proper jazz funky!)
Infectiouis Grooves - Sarsippius' Ark (Suicidal Tendencies/Janes Addiction funk/rock supergroup - best cover of "Fame"!)

Today's playlist

Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
Don't look Back - Peter Tosh
Pablo Honey - Radiohead
Concerto Grosso Op 6 No 9 in F major - Corelli
Horn Concerto - Haydn
Debateable Lands - Kathryn Tickell
The Deep End Vol 2 - Gov't Mule
Dream Harder - Waterboys
For the Love of open Spaces - Steve Lawson & Theo Travis
Grace & Pride - Capercaillie.

Jet - Get Born
Motorhead - Hammered :D
Motorhead - Bomber

The last two are (very) far from being neighbour friendly, but something a bit heavy now and then is good . As for the Jet cd, well enjoyable enough, but very very derivative...two tracks are total rip offs of Iggy Pop and AC-DC.

The Earlies - 'These were the Earlies'. Don't be deceived by the heavyweight vinyl package that came out last week, cos it's the packaging and not the vinyl that make up the weight, but don't be put off either, cos it still sounds marvellous.

Buddy Rich - 'Very alive at Ronnie Scott's'. What a fantastic player, and one who surrounded himself with other top notch musicians too.

Eagerly awaiting delivery of the new Lemon Jelly album on (5x) vinyl, for the music, and for the fun of not being able to sit down for longer than one song. Play this album regularly and you will not turn to jelly...(sorry, bad pun)

Chris.

Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Blues Du Jour. Charming Japanese faux-naive poppy strangeness, a record I've listened to quite a bit over the past year or so and never seem to tire of. 37 songs on 2 sides of vinyl, most of them around a minute long, and all of them full of playfulness and invention.

Ian,

Not exactly currently spinning, but spinning over the weekend. Just to say thanks for the heads up on this. I ordered on impulse when I read your post but for some reason the record didn't get spun. Span a few weeks ago and Auntie Ants fell in love with it immediately - its been playing regularly now for a week or so and its utterly charming. We love it. Thank you.

i've currently got on (Roots Manuva - Awfully Deep) i would probably recomend it to anyone that knows of Roots Manuva and any one that hasnt its a good point to start.

How To Cut And Paste - DJ Yoda.
Great stuff and very funny. Good fun listening.

Great stuff!

I dug out volumes 1 and 2 last week for the first time in a while.

There's an 80s edition cut and paste album too, which I've been meaning to get.

Have you heard any Kid Koala albums?

On the cdp today:

The Mars Volta - delousing in the crematorium (70s inspired rock with a slight similarity to Dream Theater and Phish... Starring Flea and John Frusciante from the Chill Peppers)

Dr John - Funky New Orleans

Athlete - Tourist (some very strange production on this!)

Gregory Isaacs - 70s compilation

James Carter - Layin' in the cut (perfect semi-free jazz funk)
