Really, Dev didn't mention that he just said it crapped all over the Glasshouse passive.

I dunno about the Shangling player, seemed average to me, but I completely agree with Thorstens other two component recommendations, the MEG's are awesome.

    Did someone call?

Sorry guys, I haven't read the whole thread and looking at some of the loooooong posts, I'm not going to either. However, in the bake-off that S&M is referring to, Dean's Django TVC did indeed "crap all over" the Glasshouse pre. I subsequently tried a DACT CT2 passive attenuator and found that it was also much better than the Glasshouse. So after I finish building the TVC, I plan to replace the DaleVishay attenuator in the Glasshouse with the DACT and use whichever I like better with the Rogue and the other in the second system.

In due course when funds allow I'll most likely look at an active pre. On Saturday Rob's coming around with his active valve pre so we'll be able to compare the Glasshouse , DACT CT2 and his valve pre. I only wish I had a TVC for comparison as well.

    Well,

I think Robbo, myself and Ian certainly preferred the glasshouse with the Leak IIRC. With the Rogue the TVC was much better, but I certainly felt a decent active valve pre such as a Magnum 99 would have been better.

No one's knocking the TVC - just pointing out that it's not the be all and end all of preamps. It should perhaps be pointed out as well that the Django is 4 times the price of the Glasshouse!

If I can get a pair of the TX-102's to you by Saturday will that help? You could hook them up with crocodile clips. Still it wouldn't be run in... I should be getting a few TX-102's tomorrow, but not the whole shipment.

I guess Tenson mixed up his browser windows and thought he was posting about SUHTL speakers over on pfm.

Ah I thought you were on about Billy Woodman. The NZ bit threw me - I thought he was an Aussie.

My recollection was that the TVC was clearly better with the Rogue but that the differences between the TVC and Glasshouse were much smaller using the Leak.

I am indeed. What time do you want me Dev?
Ooo if Simon can get the 102s we have the makings of a nice pre amp bake-off :)

Any time after 10:00AM Rob. As I mentioned before, this time we HAVE to be a bit moderate with the volume control:).

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to de-rail the thread. I only posted because my name was mentioned.

    Please carry on.

    Hi,

Better is a highly subjective judgement and one that may go opposite ways for different people.

I tend to perform wherever possible a bypass test, which tells me a good what a given device does to the music, in more or less absolute terms. In a bypass test performed in a well balanced system the "more neutral" component is invariably the "better", blind or sighted.

I would suggest some bypass tests, just for completeness. Otherwise we are back to the very contention Arthur Salvatore makes and with which I agree.

    Ciao T

    Hi,

Hmmm, is anyone driving over from North London?

I can bring a very well run in MFA PMP and an Opera Reference 1.3 [which may very well not be fully run in - I ddon't much like listening to it ;-) ].

Further questions, what are the sources?

    Ciao T

Walthamstow E17 - not far from you in NL but I'm going by train.
Luckily the WAD pre amps are small and easy to carry.

I was going to see Nick this weekend but he says things have become hectic. If our meet-up is off, do you have room for one more Dev?
