I think Mana is gone out of business

Getting back to the thread........children

It will be a very sad state of affairs to lose a respect [in some areas] HiFi manufacturer, lets hope that there silence is for other reasons.

Mr Horn was right about LS3/5As. Awful things.
Nowt wrong with LS3/5as - absolutely brilliant speaker for monitoring 1/4" drama rushes while transferring to 16mm. You could hear any faults where it mattered at that stage (i.e. voice frequencies), and they weren't tiring to listen to all day. And they all sounded the same (or were meant to), which is quite important in a large scale post production facility.
Wouldn't touch 'em for music listening, though..

I would - been using them happily for 25 years, and continue to do so (when I can't be bothered dragging the ESLs into position). (Some people will simply never be audiophiles...)

tones - you are one of those rare entities on hi-fi forums: someone who listens to music, not hi-fi.

You are quite wrong about rock, though.

Chacun à son goût, mon vieux.

Getting serious for a minute. Hifi needs companies like Mana.

Whether you use their equipment (or even like it) they attempted to make something which hopefully improved the musicality of the hifi placed on it - musicality and not hifi.

I dealt with them prior to their move to their current premises and bought the reference wall shelf off them. The advice and conversations I had with them at the time proved to me that they were more enthusiasts than business men.

I still use the shelf and thought it was good vfm, it is well made and does change the sound of equipment placed on it - whether you like it or not.

It would be very sad if a compny like Mana disappeared.

The now-dead link was to a guy who had (allegedly) paid for a 6 tier rack, but had encountered supply problems. I think it's a shame that they seem to be having difficulties.

Whatever difficulties they may or may not have currently, I don't think Mana will cease trading.

As a general remark, maybe this thread is a good opportunity to remind forum posters that there are people and livelihoods concerned when they post about a piece of equipment. Factual criticism, sure, no problem, but slagging off companies often crosses the boundaries of what I feel justified.

I doubt they will given the decline in 2 channel and the increasing importance of equipment aesthetics.

As an asside Markus, I feel that subjective anger based on factual events dislayed on the internet can be a good thing. The hifi industry in general still seems to think it is the 1970's and that customer service is of little importance. Maybe if they had moved with the times, less of them would be experiencing difficulties today?

Fair enough - as I said, lovely mid band..
However, I like it loud, with bass..
LS3/5as don't really do either!

I was? That's nice, must go and look...

Er, where? Or perhaps I should say, which one of the many places? As one of the resident sceptics of HFC and custodian of "The Myths of Hi-Fi" thread, I have legions of fans.

The penny has just dropped. You mean in the magazine? Wow! My stock has risen! Pity that it's not available in Swizzieland.

I was at the supermarket and decided to look it up for you. What they have done was reprint a condensed version your 'The myths of hi-fi' thread at the HFC Forum link in their Letters to the Editor section. Actually just the first 3 points of your essay. This was followed by a short commentary by the mag's editor along the line saying he can't reprint the whole of it, doesn't agree with you fully but suggest it is very interesting reading and invite readers to visit the forum to read the rest of it and make up their own mind.

Glad Tones has reached his dotage......

I took the time to read this article twice , all I can say is ....I think its time you took yourself down to the audiologist and had your hearing imperically test, I say this without tongue in cheek, as I asked to be tested within the last four years [I shall be 50 in a couple of years] my hearing was straight average. So that begs the question why do I disagree with 80% plus of his article, it must be that his deterioration in his hear is far down the line as compared with a plain average. Ye gods even my wife will ask what have I done to the music ...after swapping a cable she has less than zero intrest in hifi and she can hear these so called no existant changes.

So Tones, I'm afraid you been hoisted on your own petard, all your listening is coloured by your hearing loss. So in future when Tone responds to a post with "well I can't hear a difference this thing make" we know were we stand!

On the contrary, you've been hoisted on your own imagination :D But nowt wrong with that, just as long as you enjoy your individual sound world (as I do).

Ah ... the good old "hi-fi wife" makes an early appearance!

She's always preceded by "even my", which suggests (to me) that she is regarded by her husband as some sort of imbecile.
