Indeed... side 2 is pretty close to perfect pop. I played it again last night and its incredible how some music can make you feel. This took me right back to teen angst. Shame Galaxie 500 could never quite reach the same heights again (as for Luna, less said).

I remember liking it at the time, but for some reason never got hold of it. I suspect both the Velvet Underground and Sister Lovers era Big Star could sue them, but they did that post-VU thing very well I recall. Looking forward to hearing this again properly.

What are Damon and Naomi like?

    Hi Guys,

Just back from a work trip to Salt Lake City. Didn't have any intention of buying any records out there (CDs were a bit cheaper - good exchange and all but not so much that I was tempted to stock up), however to my surprise and delight there was a record shop just opposite the hotel with loads of secondhand and a few new vinyl.

    I got:

Isaac Hayes - Hot Buttered Soul
Byrds - The Ballad of Easy Rider
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - Going to a Go Go
Johnny Cash - Live at Town Hall Party 1959

Have only had a chance to spin the Isaac Hayes and the Smokey albums and I love em both.

Also when I got to work this morning the new 4x10" Music from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop discs had arrived. Can't wait to get them home.

Dom? What the Holly Golightly album like? She's part of the "Medway Massive" along with Billy Childish I believe. I've recently bought a Billy Childish and Buff Medways album - Steady the Buffs - and its on regular rotation - wonderful three minute punk pop nuggets with a heavy Kinks influence. Just wondered what she was like, especially if she shares musical DNA with Mr Childish.

Urm, well, I haven't got round to playing it yet!!! Only 7 weeks after purchase though so in about another 6 months... :shame: It should be good though. How old is she btw? Trying to figure out from the cover... She looks like a fox though :)

All Johnny Cash fans MUST purchase American III and IV, in that order.

This is actually a law, and you can get a community sentence or 6 months jail term in knoxville county jail if you dont.

IT DID! I'm only on track 1 at the mo but you're in for a treat dude - it's g-g-g-great so far - 12 tracks, 28 minutes - it's a bit like the Offspring with decent vocals - I bet this Brody bird is a handful in IRL based on her vocals - like a tuneful version of Courtney Love!!!

Black Cherry is well chilled too dude - you should check it out :)

28 minutes... now that's the sort of length an album should be. None of this "lets fill the CD up" attitude that produced such bollocks as Oasis' Be Here Now. By all means, if an album has 70 minutes of great music, then it should be that long, but so many have filler on these days it's untrue. That QOTSA album is good, but you're right, it is too long, doesn't quite keep the attention.

Will check out the Distillers though, great name for a band too! Wonder if 101CDsneverdelivered are still doing it cheap?

If Black Cherry is on the same kind of lines as Felt Mountain, then I'd guess it'd be well chilled.

The records I've got by them (More Sad Hits and The Woundrous World of D&N) are very pretty, melancholic albums. They still sound very much like Galaxie 500 with Kramer filling in for Dean Wareham on guitar, some of their songs are really catchy and beautiful whilst some are more forgettable. These are early ('92 and '95) albums though, I can't say I've heard anything very recent by them. I'd really like to hear their collaboration with Ghost though.
More Sad Hits is the better of the two (IMHO) and well worth picking up for a few quid. Still can't figure out why Dean Wareham just disbanded such a lovely band to form the very average Luna.

Got a great cd in the post today...
    Ilk – Zenith
Richard Youngs' one man prog band. Never new it existed till I stumbled over it on ebay and its a mad mix of synths (controls set on church organ), mediaval strumming, schreechy drones, poetry reading by his dad and some genuienly fantastic songs. All recorded on a 4-track at home!
One for those who like the idea of prog, but have never actually heard a good prog record.

yeah, galaxie 500 are a trul amazing band - I've seen them live years ago up at newcastle...sigh, luna are fine, done some good stuff as well as crap....

Damon and naomi are fine, there is even a cover of their only album (? - I forget its name!), but that covered by spacemen3...real class!
I'll try and get the details when my boss isn't hanging around...

Damn right - maximum lengths of albums should be 45 minutes - like in the good old days. 70+ minutes of Oasis is bad news... Mind you, psy-trance CDs seem to work OK at that length - due to the hypnotic loops etc...

Black Cherry's very chilled - defo on the same level. Plus she fakes orgasm (well, it SOUNDS like that!) on 2 tracks so it's kind of Portishead on E meets L'il Louis - cool as :)

I picked up More Sad Hits today and it's more hit and miss than Galaxie 500 (Today turns out to be very good, as is This Is Our Music, which I also got today. Both cool and cheeky to rip off an Ornette album title, I thought).

    Today I also went for:

    - Nurse With Wound, Crumb Duck
    - John Zorn, The Gift
    - Satoko Fujii, Kitsune-bi
    - David S Ware, Threads
    - Cecil Taylor & The Italian Instabile Orchestra, The Owner of the River Bank

Oh, and a cool Stax t-shirt.

Went to sifter's records yesterday and bought: (all on LP of course)

Blondie Greatest Hits (1979) - includes poster of Debbie £2.25
    Bee Gee's ESP Album £1.50 (1987)
    Shadow's - A string of hits (1979) 50p
Art Garfunkel - Fate for Breakfast 50p

All records sound like new with hardly any crackles or surfice noise.

I like dark and morbid, but personally I feel I wasted £15.99 on the triple vinyl. Blue Lines and Mezannine get much more play.

Back on topic, last 5 items I bought were...

Ultimate Experience - Jimi Hendrix (ebay)
? - Daddy Mango (saw them live in Exmouth but I can't remember what the CD's called)
Coral Fang - Distillers (bought on same day - so pissed, I left this in my mate's jacket pocket so won't get to hear until the weekend!)
Hannah Barbara cartoon themes (£2, Smiths sale - has everything from the Flintstones to Top Cat on it - pure class!)
Hot - Melanie B (£2, Smiths sale - I like the first two tracks and it was worth it for the pictures. Yep - I'm one of those sick weirdos who thinks she's pretty fit....)
