    just bought -

'strange days' Doors on vinyl (3 quid)
'bryter later' nick drake (5 quid)
'the songs of' leonard cohen (3 quid)

all on vinyl, none are re-prints.

The nick drake is an Island copy, and is near mint. Anyone know its value?
the other two probably not worth so much though?

    Hi Chris,

The Nick Drake lp has a book price of £18 for a mint copy. This is the one with a blue with white palm tree label. The original has a book price of £45. There has been a lot of interest in Nick drake. There is an original on ebay with starting price of £120.

The Doors record has a book price £60 or £45 depend on if it is mono or stereo with a orange textured label. Or £15 if it has a butterfly label as on the 1971 reissue. There is a stereo original on ebay starting at £29.99 with no bidders.

The Leonard Cohen can be worth £20 or £15 if it is an orange CBS label original, mono or Stereo. Or £15 or £12 if it is the first repressing on a orange label.

What you get for them if you sell will vary.

    THanks Dean!!!

The Nick Drake is a pink label, dont know if thats the original or some sort of remaster?

The doors is a red label, cant see any butterfly. It is stereo. Again a reissue do you think?

The Leonard Cohen is an Orange CBS label, like you said. Dont know if its a first copy or not.

Altogether some great music for a tenner though!!!!!

    :)
    Chris

    NB
Next time anyones hear in MK I'll show them this shop if they're a vinyl fan. Its most stuff for 1-3 quid.

    On vinyl today.

The Best of Lee Dorsey (EMI/Regal pressing from the 70's), bought purely because I really like the track 'Get Out My Life Woman'.
The Best of Booker T & The MGs (Atlantic 1984 pressing), bought because I've always liked 'Green Onions' and to help add to my expanding vinyl collection.

Both reasonably priced and in VG/EX condition although the covers have taken a little wear. Think I'll have to keep an eye on the record shop where I picked them up for any other interesting bits of vinyl.

Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks LP
Dire Straits - Alchemy Live remastered CD
Simple Minds - Once Upon A Time LP
Ten Years After - Live At The Fillmore LP
Led Zeppelin - BBC Sessions CD
....and, er, Mel C's latest!!!! In my defence it was only £1.99 on CD so I thought I'd have a pop....Her latest too. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Her first record still sells for good money but this second one appears to have bombed with a capital 'B'! Only played it the once and it seems 'limited' shall we say. Still, a bit too early to pass judgement.

    Hi Chris,

The Doors one with the red label is a reissue & isn't worth much.

Does your Island LP look like this one.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=58619&item=4028761664&rd=1

The Pink rim Island label started in late 1970 & went to the mid 70s. It sound slike an original pressing. Check the matrix number on the out groove near the label. This is a code that can give you info to see if it is a first pressing or not. It can also indicate which metal stamp it came from. Oriiginal Nick Drake lps weren't big sellers so they can go for big money.

    Thanks Dean!

The cover is identical, but the label is pure pink with no ''island'' in the shape of an island on it in the way of the one in the link.

the code on it is SVLP 094B.

Sounds like Im SOL with it being an original pressing?

    Hi Chris,

It sounds like the copy you have is the Simply Vinyl repressing from 1999. It is not available on the current simply vinyl catolgue. Its sounds like it's a 180g release. I have seen a few places selling this version for over £15.

tell you what though, its an excellent sound.

I keep hearing bad things about simply vinyl, but I have about 10 simply vinyl releases, and they all sound great!

I think its snobbery around the fact that they have budget releases.

    NB
Dean, I kept your old advice about funk, and my latest purchase is ..

The Meters ' The Very Best Of'

Could this band be any more funky?!?!

Fantastic stuff - people should click on the sound samples on www.amazon.co.uk and have a listen for themselves!

    :)

    Hi Chris,

A big collector may try and get an original pressing. With Nick Drake original albums being quite rare, the demand in price will be high. Simply Vinyl have repressed a number of classic albums. The thing is that they don't always use the original masters. They also don't claim any audiophile ability. The mastering can be hit or miss. So the sound quality can be worst the original.

I picked up another Meters album last week from Chesterfield Market on vinyl. Very good stuff for sure.

The Meters- Good old Funky music. An album of previously unissued material.

p.s. gundam - the prodigy's new one is awesome - it's like they've snapped back slightly to their old rave days but kept the tech and production from 'fat of the land' great stuff.
