Is this forum even about 'Hi-Fi' anymore? People seem more interested in arguing the toss over things that can't be resolved on a forum one way or the other. I think people should spend a little less time dreaming up hairbrained thoughts and spend that time maybe listening to some music instead. Pretty much every thread seems to fall into non sensical arguing these days. I used to like coming here because of all the interesting real world equipment people talked about. And all the genuinely interesting tweaks.

Now it's all arguments about how bits of rock can brighten your day and the offensivness level of the word 'w*nker'.

It's boring as sh*t, guys. Let's get back on track, huh?

What? With interesting tweaks that only work in your mind? I'm all for discussing hifi (I go to Wigwam for that these days sadly), but if I want to discuss magic I'll call Paul Daniels.:)

talking of crystals - there's a mine a few miles from where I live -
    http://www.ukminingventures.com/

and you can often see this lying around -

I had a look there in the summer (with my mady) - but there was a high dry stone wall - will have to go back again... :)

Absolutely. I tried David Copperfield but he suffered badly from skin effect.

Do we need a separate lunatic fringe forum where people can discuss all sorts of other stereo voodoo?

I think there are enough forums for lunatics.

I doubt ZG really wants to attract them.

Only just noticed this thread, and the song took about 10 minutes to write itself:

In a cavern, in a canyon
    Excavating in a mine
    Zanash looks for perfect crystal
    His hi-fi sound to refine

    Chorus:
Oh my darling, oh, my darling,
    Oh, my darling tourmaline
    Crystal silicon dioxide
Makes my sounds much more sublime

    Chorus:

Tho' no min'ral is more common
As a building block you'll find
It does things bord'ring on Potter
    Hogwarts as hi-fi defined

    Chorus:

    For geologists, bananas
    But New Agers they opine
    Things improve with every hearing
Just a bit like vintage wine.

    Chorus:

    Matters not if orthorhombic
    Simple trigonal, refined
    Tetragon- or hexagon-al
All will make your sounds divine.

    Chorus:

Place one near your hi-fi set-up
Then sit back, and feel your mind
Warm to all those good vibrations
Please just leave your brains behind.

    Chorus:

Fantastic work Tones. Getting "orthorhombic" in there is pretty impressive.

As for having a separate room for the lunatics, ZG already has one, it's called "The HiFi Room".

    with apologies to Tom Lehrer

A song with no recognizable merit whatsoever, and imagine what might have happened if, for example, Cole Porter had tried writing this song. The first verse might have come out like this:

In a cavern, in a canyon,
    Excava-a-ating for a mine,
Far away from the boom-boom-boom of the city
    Zanash' certainty, tourmaline

    Oh tourmaline, can't you tell from the howls of me;
This love of mine calls to you from the bowels of me.
    Are you divinining the returning
Of this churning, burning, yearning for you-oo-oo... ah-ah.....

No Pete my comment was in direct reference to the fact that as man all of us at some point has masterbated and therefore need not take offence at SM's post a few before mine.

my use of the pejorative was indeed to draw attention to the fact that to be offended by such an open ended comment as SM's is simply ridiculous...

    much like this thread

It doesn't bother me either .....what it should concern is the people who run the forum as it breaks there rules .....

unless of course they only apply to some people and not others .....

I was warned that any non compliance of the stated rule was an instant ban

Some people seem to be able to get away with far so much more ....may e the rule are just guide lines? [that squiggle is a question mark for those that are still uncertain ]

Just a little reiteration I asked a question .... I did not make a statement.

Some nice poetry by the way.

I'm inclined to agree with Z-I have also been told persistent offenders will be banned and yet can see the usual persistent/consistent offenders' posts /removals failing to incur one.
On the subject of Onanism I'm not offended but the drearily familiar ridicule, personal insult(with gutless support from their playground posse) and weasel justifications for comments has brought moderation and forum rules into disrepute and ZG a place where because of some members the only meaningful discourse has to take place via pm or off forum altogether.

Anyone making ridiculous claims leaves themselves open to ridicule. That's the way of the world Cooky - not just ZG. Free speech means just that. You are free to make ridiculous claims, and I am free to ridicule those claims.

If you, and others cannot or will not understand that, I really have no idea what planet you are living on. Oh and please don't try and pretend you feel insulted by this post. It is a statement of fact - not a personal assault on you or anyone else.

Talking about crystals is not "meaningful discourse".
