    Hi BBV,

What is it about 'Rock' music that you think requires a capability that perhaps a full orchestral piece doesn't need?

Which particular brand of PA Rig, microphones and practice amps are in your mind's ear when you assess the realness of your studio recorded 'Rock' playback?

What special features does your TT have that allows it to play 'Rock' better than other TT's?

Live acoustic music. Or direct feed right from the stage for a rock band.

It doesnt need the timing in the same way or the bass.

The BLG has those - attack, dynamics, coherence and the bass. The sme - while great for classical due to its neutral clean sound - sounds a bit flat and doesnt have great coherence or timing IMHO.

I doubt very much you've heard either the Altecs or the JBLs, so how do you know?

Your speakers are not up with the greats. One day, if you're lucky, you'll get to hear a truly world class speaker set-up in a sympathetic domestic environment, at which point you'll get it, if you have ears and are prepared to be less defensive about your choices.

That's just magazine speak. The Brinkmann may be better for all I know (never heard one), but the old "SME can't time" line is very stale.

I am very familiar with JBL - more so I will warrant than you are with brinkmann. I am also very familair with tannoy. Or with PMC outside of a show environment. One day if you are lucky you wil hear my world class setup ;).

I've heard a BLG and it struggled with the coherence and lacked pretty much all the other factors you've just mentioned, BBV. You really must have cloth-ears!

Come off it, very little of the top range JBL line is even on sale in the UK. Which models have you heard, and where? Be extremely specific please.

    How about Altec? Heard any?

The big ones. I actually quite like jbl. But they are not as good as pmc. I am not familair with altec.

The clothes ears are yours I am afraid Jon.

I couldn't care less at this point.

Just don't concern yourself with anything I've got to post, unless you've genuinely got something constructive to say.

Also say it quickly: heard the 30th anniversaries, which I've said about 3 times now... and you ask me if I can read?

Which big ones? There are many to choose from. Where did you hear them? When? How did they get into the country? Please be specific.

You would perhaps be more credible if you didn't keep insisting you have experience of things you manifestly don't.

Huge - as big as a certain Himalayan mountain.

I am not telling you where - last time I did that you called the shop!

I didnt enquire how they got into the country it didnt seem relevent.

My favourite cinema also has jbls - a premium installation of the top kit - Curzon Mayfair. You can ring them if you like. I heard a lovely jazz soundtrack there recently.

As you havent heard the BLG you cant claim credibility either.

    Only if you rock it.

Generally, I don't have to find it. I can quite clearly remember where I last put it.

and this is what your considered opinion of horn speakers is based on?

The AG Duo's are not what I'd consider to be fully representative of the breed, the Trio's/basshorn maybe. Also while the Emporium does have some interesting items for sale, I understand their demonstration facility is in a shed!

I don't doubt the Brinkmann is a good TT. So is the Verdier, the SME and so are several others. I do doubt that the Brinkmann has special 'Rock' playing abilities the others don't share though. I think its your fevered imagination running away with you again!

No it means that SSB isnt in a position to judge. My familirity or lack thereof with altec doesnt come into it.

MArkus - I mean "can it play rock music well" and "what do you thinkof your new tvc"

No thats a bit unfair on Emporium. I have heard other horn speakers as well but those acquited themselves well.

Murray - you should wait and listen before you make such a rash remark!

....except the joke is on you, Nick! You were asked to be specific about which JBLs you have heard and you could not. I can only conclude that not only do you have cloth ears but that you've only heard a fraction of the items you claim to! :D
