    Hi Andy,

No haven't had a demo of either power amp yet. I am changing amp and speakers, so it occured to me that I should sort out some kind of combination that behaves with a degree of synergy. I have always been fond of speakers with an all metal driver complement, floor standing with good bass extension so I guess they might arrive first now ( whatever they turn out to be,) followed by the demo power amps...

Bit bogged down at the moment by the wife's fussiness over finish as well. In the past I have just ordered speakers and let her bitch about it until she wound down... not sure if I can be bothered with that now.....

    Thanks for your interest,

    Darren

Currently running off of a bel canto 2i and sounding very nice indeed.

NB: new baby is limiting listening time at the mo, so the amp is also for sale:)

    What's your budget Darren?
What sort of finish are you looking for?
    New or S/H?

I owned a pair of xenon's until around six months ago. I loved them. Sadly they would not fit in with current decor ( also the wife always hated them).

Investigating a pair of fab looking Sonus fabers - will report soon. prefer mint used budget is £700 - 1000

I had a demo this weekend of the Lyngdorf equipment (CD-1 and TDA2200 + SDA 2175 driving special Lyngdorf woofers). The woofers were crossed over at 400 Hz to 'mid/high' speakers, which were cheap models from Dali (around 250 UKP a piece)! The sound was simply one of the best of the show! Incredibly tight and powerful (the woofers work VERY well), with only a bit of parametric eq on the woofers. Raw material like Ben Harper was simply exactly like you would hear it live: uncompressed, with very present midrange and POWER! I couldn't stop tapping my feet, I was bobbing along, this was real live music! Not 'nice' of 'sweet' or 'smooth', just raw like real music is.

Strange thing was, when I thought I had pinned down the sound characteristics in the bass, Peter Lyngdorf put on another CD and the bass changed accordingly. This system just plays what is on the CD! On 'audiophile' discs, it changed it's character totally from raw to ultra-refined!

If a had to criticize the system: it was a bit harsh and unrefined when played loud, but this could also have been of a VERY hard acoustic and the tweeter(s) from the Dali.

Did you try your own CDs, or just listened to the dem CDs at the show?
Everytime I heard TACT stuff with their dem disks, sounded completely awesome. Last year I tried with some music I know and actually listen to. By the time I'd finished, I'd lost good deal of my positive thoughts.

    Hi
What recordings do you use as a reference?

Although there is some family history with Tact and Lyngdorf I believe that the Lyngdorf products (or the Danish not US tact products) are superior.

I was blown away with them at the HR Show.
Just running in an SDAi now and I love it already.

The Tact cries out for mains conditioning, it can be made quite listenable along with those internal psu mods.
The Dali's are good but really need a Mac with them, very fussy on partnering gear, but can sound good Imo

I heard them with their demo discs, but I have and know two recordings they used VERY well:

    Janis Ian - Breaking Silence
Ben Harper - Welcome to the Cruel World

I have rarely (if ever) heard those with the energy and the correct timbre for every strand of music like on the Lyngdorf gear. It sure wasn't ultra-refined (like I know it to be on the Lavardin), but it had a raw energy and excitement that was not easy to ignore.

    Yes G,

The smps upgardes for the tact have been around for years, Personally I remove the psu from inside the unit and do it proberbly.

Mains conditoning, passive works best with these IMO, some decent gaisn ACROSS the board can be made.
Yep Mac is good with Dali, as is a decent switcher and valve pre.
The tact demo at HR was pretty average, still missing the musical involvement
Well maybe you make a dual trip G, come over and check out some gear, then bring your nordost along and come for listen.

Though some are better than others at this, happy to demo one or 2 others with this also
Sunday, Andy even had a long chat with **** never remember his name, the UK guy who's distrubiting the stuff.

Do you rate Isotek WM? I have heard PS Audio btw and it KILLS music. I think ExactPower should be better (almost couldn't be worse.. :)).

Tony - are there any mods that apply to the Tact semi-digital amps? Ta.

NO, I recently did a one on one demo against a Titain, the person had one on loan from a dealer, it went back after he listened to a Power Master 2.
Nevber been a fan of Isotek stuff. There is very little mains stuff I've not sampled, suffice to say I internally restructed one of the so called best. Its satisfactory now
Though I do add to it from time to time LOL!!!!
The only ones I would consider are Audio Magic, Iso clean, currently, each does different things.

    Alan,
    OH YES,
The forwardness can be removed, with more naturalness and involvement.
They can be brought up a fair way, you will need to PM me if you wish to discuss this, but later I have a 861 to finish sorry!!!
