Well its the same driver, The Punto never had any clutch problems either but I have read reports that they can fail at around 60,000 miles if they are abused.

My driving instructor needed a clutch on one of his Corsa's at 30,000 miles, he was not pleased. Although clutch wear is expected he found the Renult Clio was much better in this regard. I hated the clutch on the corsa as well.

And that stupidly women style gearbox, Vauxhall did replace the gearbox for the MK2 Corsa I think though.

Remember a clutch is a wearable part and should be treated as such.

My dad has owned six Mondeo's since their launch. Not one has put a foot wrong. He could afford to buy a BMW or small Merc and has driven them from time to Time. His verdict is that they are overpriced, underspecced and over-rated. Guess what his next car will be.

Well but a new BMW 3 series and a new Mondeo next to each other and if you take all the bages off I am not convinced the BMW would be better.

Don't you mean "walking down" - usually the Fiats will be being pushed ;)

AT - you'd know which was which though - the Beemer'd have nothing but basic interior items, and the Ford'd be fully loaded.

    Break My Windows
    Better Make Way
    Bad Motorist Warning

Take your pick - he he ;)

I had a front tyre puncture in a Fiat Punto (hire car) whilst driving up the side of Mount Versuvias in 1994. It was an offside tyre too so very scary trying to fix it on that twisty , narrow , ash road, especially with all of the tourist coaches hurtling past me on their way back down.

That guy hiring out the walking sticks near the summit must make a packet and hardly any costs either as you can't even steal them, he watches everybody coming back through the gate like a hawk :D .
Pompei was awsome too, definately worth the extra to hire a guide, The Romans sure did know how to enjoy life....

The thing that struck me about Versuvias was when you are driving towards Naples it looks like somebody has painted a comedy volcano/mountain into the skyline.....

This is so typical of the chippy, speculative rubbishing of superior products on this forum.

Who cares? The BMW has a better chassis, drivetrain, steering, brakes and engine.

but it's what's behind the steering wheel that's usually the problem.

perhaps if they sufficiently increased the price of mobile phone topups it would stop people using their phones whilst driving? ;)

*doh*....you'd have to be insane to start a phone call whilst driving, as the devil says (and for once, I agree with him) most calls are incoming... ;)

Devil has a point. A Mondeo is a good car, very good in general terms, but a 3 series competitor? not a chance IMO. If you need as many toys as possible then fair enough after that theres no comparison.

I agree that you'd have to be insane to start a call while driving.
however, the evidence that I see every day is that by and large BMW and Mercedes drivers are allowed to ignore the highway code and do as they please. so just because we know it's insane, doesn't mean that every other nutter on the road does.
