I've now put up a 'Sneak Preview' page for forum members. There is one photo up now but I will add more later. The photos are Jpegs taken from the SolidWorks files which are the files sent to the CNC companies who feed it into their machinery which makes the tooling for the speaker body, legs (aluminium extrusions), base, grille, front plate, etc. In other words, we're quite close to product launch now.

There are technical aspects that may be of interest to forum members and I will add some pictures & descriptions of the product, new matching Little Awesomes, Layered Sound, Home Theatre applications, and so on.

So, if anyone is interested in following the launch, check this page from time to time as I will be continuously updating it until the launch of the new web site.

This being ZeroGain, any comments will be welcome.

That looks very good Steve. Looking forward to hearing them some day. This is a serious question, but have you considered doing a slightly more traditional speaker for people like me who live in period houses, much as I'd love to I'd never be able to sneak them in ;)
Good luck

Steve, are the 'Sneak Preview' and 'This Page' links meant to be the same?

I would love to bring out a more traditional speaker in the future. However, my gut feeling is that a speaker that fits into a flat-screen TV environment is more likely to feed me at this time.

Yes.

Regards
Steve

You guys were quick off the mark.

Just read your posting of hifiteepee, are you going to the Sound and Vision show in Manchester??
Yes, I'm planning to launch there.

I've put up some better pics and more information here for anyone interested.

Are you going, T-bone?

You did say any questions, so:

Is layered sound technology something that you have patented?

Do the main speakers, NXT panels and subs get the full frequency range or do you employ some form of x-over?

Are the speakers aimed at a 2 channel market or home cinema?

If you move the NXT panels to the rear, is this any different to having rear speakers (or indeed NXT panels)?

Good questions. Layered Sound is patented by Dr Shelley Katz who is, amongst other things, a classical pianist of some reknown. He made his discoveries in the process of trying to get a realistic sound from an electronic piano. He came to see me originally because he was interested in getting some speakers designed. That didn't happen (for him) but I experimented myself and liked what I found.

Do the main speakers, NXT panels and subs get the full frequency range or do you employ some form of x-over?
Firstly, I don't consider the 'subs' to be subs. The new Little Awesomes are bass speakers designed to match the Nonsuch 2. As the crossover frequency is so low, I place them in separate enclosures, that's all. I find that there are advantages with this approach. Bass can be positioned in the room for the best bass response, while mids and treble are positioned for best stereo. Also, bass can be equalised without touching the 'full-rangers'.

The Little Awesomes have an inbuilt amp and the low-pass frequency can be varied between 120Hz and 220Hz. 120Hz is useful for when you only use one bass speaker or when the bass speakers are in a position that might cause a deterioration in the stereo imagery for higher frequencies. On the other hand, if you can place the bass speakers quite close to the Nonsuch 2s, you can set the crossover frequency to 200 and allow the bass to take more weight, giving the impression of a larger system.

The Nonsuch 2s can be run in 'pure mode' (no crossover) or with a crossover switchable between 120Hz and 200Hz.

The flat panels run from 200Hz to over 25kHz.

Are the speakers aimed at a 2 channel market or home cinema?
The speakers are designed to be truthful, as best as I can achieve that. I design for hi-fi. However, I believe that hi-fi will increasingly incorporate a TV screen, rear speakers, front centres, etc. I don't see a conflict and I'm sure that the new speakers will be great for Home Cinema.

If you move the NXT panels to the rear, is this any different to having rear speakers (or indeed NXT panels)?
No. using the NXT panels at the rear is a less expensive option than using another pair of Nonsuch 2s - with or without their layered sound panels.

I hope this helps but I'm happy to answer any further questions.

That's very kind of you, Sir G.

I'm linking to the Advanced Info page once more for those that have just tuned in. The poll of which concepts ZG members liked best has long been closed and, although the design chosen has moved on since those days, the views of the members were important in guiding the aesthetics of the project.

Incidentally, chaps, if you're a member of another forum feel free to post the link there, if you think the members might find the design interesting. Thanks.

Do you mind if I bring a couple of CD's to have a listen too?
No, please do - good recordings are preferred rather than 'difficult' tracks as there will (hopefully) be other people listening.

Leave "Blackburn Rover's Greatest Hits" at home.
