Right, well i had her up and running for only a few hours. Everything, barring one small bulb was functioning flawlessly. Through cans all sounded pretty darn good. Honestly - i couldn't tell much difference between the Pioneer and the NAD, other than a slightly different presentation. Obviously though, it is hard to gauge properly through cans. The tuner section was working fantastically, picking up loads of stations, and with good signal strength.

But, i was on my travels this weekend, so took the opportunity to visit a techie i know in Yorks, and dropped the beast off for his assessment. We are looking at giving the old girl a complete restoration - which is quite a big job, but we are looking into it and the costs/difficulties involved. At the moment it looks optimistic, for sourcing specific parts and so on (some from USA), and he has plenty of expertise in restoring vintage gear. I may or may not do it straight away, but just wanted to get an idea as to what is involved first.

So that means she's on vacation for a short while. It could be a couple of months if i decide to go ahead - otherwise i should be back in possession in a couple of weeks when i go back up North to collect.

BTW - this is one of the most impressive bits of hifi kit i have ever clapped eyes on. This thing was built money no object, and it shows - hence why i feel it could be worth a few quid, to get it running perfectly again as it was 25yrs ago.

I've now knocked together a 'main feature' shelf for it to slip into as well, for when it returns.

    cheers

Has ANYONE got any leads on a 3.5/7 ips quarter track of decent quality going begging - by quality, I mean anything better than an Akai 4000 since they all seem to be really dodgy reliability-wise these days...

Mind you, I've got one of these:

    8-track - of a different kind!
Jimi Hendrix live at the Isle of White - on cart - sounds amazing!

....An Akai that really IS reliable - which is more than you can say for the software... ;) Nothing splicing/draught excluder tape can't fix though!
