Witness a moment in HiFi forum history...

Conspiracy theory....

Bub has a fall out and reacts by saying he'll get rid of his mana. So, he tries the alternatives. But despite now wanting rid, nothing else seems up to the job. With none of that previous blind loyalty he'd often been accused of, his choice to still defend mana as a product shows it really must be that good!!!

So, he tries to go the DIY route. The patent's up, and it's the obvious route to follow. But still, something's just not quite right.

Despite his fall out and obvious desire to get rid/replace the mana, the negative effect on the sound just isn't worth it.

WOW! Mana really must be that good!!!

Meanwhile, all involved keep up the act and laugh about it in private conversation. Perhaps bub gets a discount and continues to grow his iron towers?

Just an idea of course :)

Hi,

There does seem to be a definite audible resonance in the speaker stacks. I noticed this last night while I was playing Thomas Tallis' "Spem in Alium" at "realistic" volume. This is massed (40 piece choir) vocals, and pretty intense stuff.

The resonance seemed to be confirmed by a "noisy sweep". Investigations continue.

The ones under the speakers seem to be, with the Tallis, yes. I noticed some harshness, and thought I'd investigate it. I haven't noticed it with any other music, but the problem is that once you tune in on something...

The stands under the electronics & TT don't seem to suffer from it, AFAICT - but they don't have anything like the amount of vibration to deal with as the ones under the ATCs.

Interesting.

Will you not have enormous problems with your neighbours once you take the ATC's off the Mana? You have suspended floorboards, right?

I've found that the stuff actually helps with neighbourly noise; there seems to be less vibration going through the floor boards.

I could have been imagining things.

I'll try damping them, and see what happens. Other solutions are in the pipeline, too. This is not going to be sorted out overnight.

You should take your Mana off the market until you resolve your present dilemma.

Unless you were just putting it up for sale to get attention?

In any case, I'll be interested to hear your findings.

MO, your theory is nice, but I think you will find it won't work out that way.

How about this theory: Mana owner has too many discussions on the internet where people tell him his supports have no effect/have a deleterious effect/are the Devil's own work and doesn't want to carry the torch anymore.

Mana owner doesn't want to just give in and give it up, however, as that would mean he'd lose face, towards others and more importantly towards himself.

Then something happens that has nothing to do with the performance of the stands. Mana owner feels slighted and makes sure the world knows about it, said world being blissfully unaware of the slight until Mana owner made the slight known to all and sundry.

Mana owner then is in a situation where he can give up Mana without losing face, the world telling Mana owner that yes, they understand, would have reacted just like you, mate, it was too much.

Mana owner then has two courses of action, either use pseudo-Mana and publicly mock himself about it (the country-gentility-hunting-object variant) or use something else entirely.

I think this theory is just as farfetched as yours.

I don't envy you trying to get rid of all of that lot. Flogging it on forums the chances are you will saturate the 2nd hand market & ending up selling soundbases at £50 a throw.

Selling stuff on Ebay is soul destroying. I have taken a hit on passing things on rather than deal with the millions of jokers emailing me to politely enquire, in broken English, whether I'd take the opportunity to get fiscally raped. It's a horrible world out there...

Don't see why. Make sure there's plenty of nice piccies. Make sure you give a fulsome description. Make judicious use of the options for making your item stand out. Don't set a silly reserve price or start price (gets the punters bidding). Make sure you know how you are going to P&P it and how much it'll cost you. Be willing to ship to Europe at least. Setup a paypal account and don't ship til the moneys in the bag.

Never had a single problem selling on ebay. Bub's only problem with the ebay route is going to be the same as with the forums - market saturation. There's only so many people in the world at any given time in the market for Mana.

Ebay'd be fine so long as he doesn't try and shift it all in the same week.

Maybe its microdynami............doh!
