A case of miffed fish ?

WM

I am surprised that a chap from the genteel town of Cheltenham condecends to converse with lowly residents of Wrexham and Glasgow.

Good God Sir, you risk expulsion from the residents committee.

Regards

Mick....from Swindon and way down in the pecking order

No no no

WM

The Hifi is from Salisbury and it is soooo much posher than Cheltenham.

Their cathereral is bigger than yours.

Regards

Mick

NB Wrexham and Glasgow don't even have churches.

Bub, the company JW keeps or doesn't keep is entirely his business and of no bother to me. Nonethelss, given his persistent ramblings about what is the 'done thing', I was a little shocked that he a): decided to go public with any private deal we may have had and b): reinvented said deal to suit his invective.

Anyway, in the words of Marco 'I have nothing more to say on the matter', except I mean it.

Alex

BTW I hope this is not a betrayal of confidence but you are always telling me how much you fancy a semi in Wrexham instead of that Gorbels slum of yours.

I'm incredibly sceptical of any kind of sales pitch. I do however consider myself open minded enough to try new things, and the dem in Cheadle only convinced me that I needed to try the QS Ref quietly on my own at home, which is exactly what I did.

Tony, I'm also very sceptical of any kind of sales pitch - after all, I use them myself every day in business. I find Cestrians particularly gullible ;)

However, let me put it this way: a sales pitch is much harder to spot if the person giving it is someone you regard as a friend. 'Advice' comes in many disguises. See my point?

This may make me sound a bit arrogant (which is not the intention), but the only person's experience I will put any money on is my own.

I don't consider that arrogant, only sensible.

I will happily listen to anything and am eager to learn, but I will then form my own opinion ââ'¬â€œ I've been farting about with audio for 25 years now, I learnt to ignore the snake oil decades ago.

Snap! We have much in common in this regard. One should always be willing to learn new ideas and concepts from others and use the relevant information gained for ones benefit; that's what I've done in the past, and it is what I'll continually do in the future; with hi-fi and many other things.

With regards to the Cheadle crowd: I am good friends with them and very much enjoy going across for a pint and a curry now and again, but I don't share all their views as my own system will clearly testify (they do not stock any audio component that I use with the exception of the QS Ref and mains block).

I also used to mix with some of the Cheadle crowd, and enjoyed a few pleasant evenings drinking beer and munching curries in Rusholme (and around the outskirts). Dave C can fairly put it away, eh? LOL! Did your lot ever go to the Third Eye in Didsbury? What a superb place! They serve Nepalese cuisine, which is a bit different to the usual Balti curries served in Rusholme. Or how about the authentic Greek/Cypriot restaurant with the big long tables? Can't remember the name of it. These were some of the usual haunts when I was there, but after going over to the dark side, so to speak, I now feel it somewhat unsuitable for me to attend ;)

I think the loyalty of Larry's customers surprised everyone, especially Naim and The Audio Counsel!

Yes, Larry is a first class salesman (of the highest rank)!

I know many of them and they are genuinely delighted with the Accuphase stuff ââ'¬â€œ Dave C's system as an example sounds truly excellent (it would sound even better with a record deck though ;)).

Never heard Dave's system, but I'm sure it sounds excellent. Tony, even if it didn't, he still deserves kudos for his dedication to the cause. Anyone who rips up carpets to replace ferrous gripper rods with aluminium ones has nothing but my greatest admiration ;)

Respect!

Marco.

Steve

It ain't as posh as Salisbury.

Sad to think where some of their stuff ends up though.

I mean Wrexham and Glasgow for Gods sake.

Regards

Mick

I don't know of any of the Esbjerg stuff winding up in either Glasgow or Wrexham, although there is quite a bit in Central Parts (two small and lowly locations) as well as in Lancaster and London.

Alex, you could be right, but the trouble is, it's not only in Wrexham where James fancies a 'semi' :D ;)

Marco.

P.S It's 'Gorbals' - and a lovely place it is now, too.

A small 'semi' is all that the horse can manage, I'm told. Aye, 'tis grim up here and all that, but don't tell anyone, right?

Warmest congratulations to Marco for all the hard work he put in inheriting his house. Well done!

Toners, apart from Satan's system, what other Naim orientated systems have you heard?

Me thinks that bloody massive anti-Naim bias of yours is addling your brain ;) :p

Speak to Steve about Naim systems - he heard an interesting one recently ;)

Marco.

Tone,

It does Pace rhythm and Timng like no other. Not the last in detail for sure, but what detail there is is what matters and it hangs together very nicely indeed.

It's also f*cking loud for a mere 75wpc into 90dB/W/m speaks.

Not so much the Devil at work here as the Green-Eyed Monster.

I've heard some where close to 20, including a good one, one James would admire as well.
I certainly know, changing kit to naim for me, would result a a downward trend in performance, by a not in-substanical amount.
I can emulate more bleeding edge, than even 37 levels of mana can manage, however at the expense of the rest of the 'whole' it's not an option. (for me)
I have no desire to go for the 'Sonic buzzsaw approach'
as Alex has stated all ready today, enough on this subject. Wm

Yes it would be just great if my relatives died and left me stuff. Then I could brag about it on the internet.

.

Thats very laudable, however if you add the bits together that are missing and more control & timing, you begin to come some where near. (perhaps)
Perhaps JW should visit, and you guys have a merlot together and wallow in ego mainia and ferrite whorship, It would be a great photo oppotunity.
Please do carry on with series, we all find amusingly enjoyable.
I think Steve, maybe time to stop grooving and doing your own system, maybe Toy Tours needs a break for a bit, calm down and rethink. Then start on his own next year, you never know Toy Towers may find 100% on the groovometer :)
Wm has interesting things to do, not worry about angle heights.
Have fun boys :)

Tone,

I think you're falling into some kind of absolutist trap here.

The system is somewhat tune challenged (well, a bit), coloured, a bit shut in and lacks soundstage depth. It has weaknesses as well as strengths. Whilst I like it, I'm not looking to replicate it at Toy Towers :D

Man, you really have got it bad! :D

Steve, the funniest thing, though, is the poor boy hasn't got the slightest clue what he's talking about!!

I'll save it for later... ;)

Marco.
